Can anyone recommend a good online Bible study course, that has it's foundations firmly in the Gospel.

I just want to learn more about the Bible.

Dear Anne,

If I could make a suggestion, you are doing just fine on your own. Do you have a "Strong's Concordance"? This is a BIG book, that you can look up specific words from any verse in the Scriptures, and see exactly what that word originally meant in the Hebrew(Old Testament) or in the Greek(New Testament). Many times the Strongs Concordance will also come with a Nave's Topical Bible included in it. Nave's is like a Bible Encyclopedia/Dictionary, where you can look up certain words, names, or places and see what their descriptions are.

I use the Strong's just about every day.

Also, online you can use a source called Crosswalk, where you can look up various words and find them anywhere in the Scriptures, and also look up a certain passage and pick out certain words to look up in the Strongs online, but the actual book is better to have in hand. It is more thorough.

Crosswalk Bible Study Tool

(Be sure to use the drop down boxes in this tool to choose the translation of Bible to use when looking up words or verses. I would highly suggest using New King James or King James when studying. If you do decide to use the Strongs Concordance, you have to remember that it only works with a "King James" Bible translation. So if you want to look up a word meaning, you have to use the word that was used in the King James, rather than a newer translation, where the word might have been changed. But just experiment on the Crosswalk, it has many of the tools I mentioned above, but just not as handy as having the books right there in front of you somewhere.)

Here's one last suggestion. If you really feel lead to still do online studies, this is one that I would highly recommend. I've wanted to participate in it myself but haven't had the time.

Henry Blackaby Homepage

On the righthand side of the page in the middle is a heading for Online Courses, click it. He has a 10 week study and a 6 week study beginning Jan. 24th. As far as ministry and teachers, this one is my favorites. He has written many books that are full of substance and not fluff.

Hope these help. If you do end up doing the Blackaby, please let me know what you thought of it, as I would really like to hear about it.

In His Love,

Suzanne

P.S. - As I'm sure you already know, or have seen, please be VERY CAUTIOUS! There are many teachings out there that claim to be of Jesus, and are not. Remember that the Word is the plumbline, and if anyone or any teachings do not align solely with the Word, then RUN!!! There are just so many out there. But I can say will all assurance, that Blackaby is firmly grounded in the Word and It's Truth.

In His Love,

Suzanne

Esword has a free downloadable bible, and strong's concordance. There are plenty of free options on it. I love it. Esword website

Watchman, in chat, recommended this site to me: John MacArthur's bible studies. They seem quite meaty and good from the ones Ive looked at so far.

Ive found a lot of junk out there. Be careful.

One of my favorite resources is Radio Bible Class Ministries. HERE

They have hundreds of Discovery Booklets that are available for download. You can do a search by subject and they will list all the booklets that apply. They have excellent resource materials, all free and quite sound doctrinally speaking.

Not perfect though so as with any study, resource or teaching...always compare the study to what the Word of God teaches. Pray and rely on the Holy Spirit to lead you into all understanding. [John 14:26]

Be Blessed,

Wayne

Thanks Suzanne, Avin Jade and Wayne

I agree with your concerns, I was looking through the listings on online Bible Courses and to be honest was a bit concerned about some, not all, of what I found which is the very reason I was seeking advice from you guys.

I do have the Strongs concordance, but use it rarely, usually in cases where i'm not entirely sure what the Bible verse is saying.

Don't worry though, i'm not going to jump at the first course I find, I was just a bit concerned, because alot of the "Statements of Faith" were more about what the course could do for you, I just want to know more about the Word of God and what I can do for Him.

I just became a little overwhelmed by all the denominational views, but your right Suzanne getting closer to God is a progressive thing, a sort of teacher to the student!

Thanks for the advice guys, it is much appreciated.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
