Are you going to college for the purpose of glorifying GOD or self?

When you get that job with all that money, will it bring you closer to GOD?

In order for HIM to increase, I must decrease.

But Jesus said to the rich young man, but yet thou lackest one thing. Go, and sell all that ye have... and he went away sad because he had many possessions...

God bless

Interesting are you saying or implying that seeking further education would draw one away from God? :noidea:

God bless,

GE

When we are studying something other than HIM, where does that leave HIM?

Now, if we would give as much time to GOD, as we do our jobs, school, TV, shopping... where would we be with GOD?

One thing is definite, we would be WITH God. ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE WITH GOD

God bless

Paul was very well educated in the scriptures and law. That did not stop God using him in an amazing way.

Yes, educated in scripture and law.

He gave his time to God. He went through some things WITH God.

God had gotten Paul's attention and now God used Paul for HIS purpose.

Paul knew he was in God's hand and God was in control.

God Bless

I believe work is a good thing and God would agree.

Actually, the Bible says for us to do everything as if we're doing it unto the Lord. That means be the best teacher, policeman, nurse, doctor, pastor, banker, social worker, engineer, computer programmer, salesman, deacon, taxi driver, truck driver, chef, waiter, stay at home mother, stay at home father, or whatever God calls you to be.

Ecclesiastes 9:10

Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might; for there is no activity or planning or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol where you are going.

Colossians 3:17,23

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men,

1 Corinthians 10:31

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

Paul was pretty adamant about working and not being a burden to the early Church... As a man who made tents.

1 Thessalonians 2:9

For you recall, brethren, our labor and hardship, how working night and day so as not to be a burden to any of you, we proclaimed to you the gospel of God.

Further, it was Paul's teaching that if anyone wasn't willing to work they shouldn't simply be let lead an undisciplined life and being busybodies. Those who didn't participate shouldn't eat.

2 Thessalonians 3:10-11

For even when we were with you, we used to give you this order: if anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either. For we hear that some among you are leading an undisciplined life, doing no work at all, but acting like busybodies.

God bless,

GE

Interesting, so where did Paul learn to be a tent maker? Curious. :help:

1 John 2:15
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him 16) For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17) And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

For Golden Eagle:
Yes, Paul was a tent maker and walking after his father's traditions. Perscuting and beating all that called or spoke Jesus name.

After God got ahold of Paul and brought him to his knees, how many tents did Paul make?
Paul was given a new job, wasn't he?
His life was not his own to do with or how he wanted.
Paul had been educated properly by the one true Teacher.

A person can only be held accountable for what he/she knows.
Where much has been given, much will be required.

My journey in HIM, is... My journey in HIM.
MY witness is to tell you about Jesus and what I have been allowed to see and hear in HIM.
Rather a person believe or not what I say is not my business, God will take it from there.
My job is to tell about HIM, be about HIM, walk in HIM, trust in HIM.

Many are called, but few are chosen.

God Bless you all

Paul was still a tent maker throughout his missionary carreer and supported himself. But let's not derail this thread so I've started a new thread:

I'm not sure what you mean by "Many are called, but few are chosen."?

I was watching some vids on the Amish last night, and one vid told how most of the Amish children drop out of school at age 14. They find their worth in helping their families and communities, and that not by "higher education" so much.

These learning various tasks through what their own parents have passed down which is the same things within their simple living communities.

Like their skills in woodworking, a lot of the Amish peoples skills don't come from a college education (as we all know) but were handed down to them (generationally) through a simple and practical life. Most of which things seem to have been forgotten by much higher educated folks who probably cant do too much for themselves (by way of surviving on their own) without the current system in tack. Our richer (and/or higher educated) seem to clone out (to our poorer/ and uneducated) assembly line set ups that will serve them better (as long as this system remains intact).

Well, unlike the Amish way of doing things.

But even many of our higher educated seem pretty dumbed down as far as basic survival skills. Because none of those skills (in any practical sense of them) are being passed on to any of them, even in those expensive type schools. Certainly not as they are with the Amish.

Like the Amish could survive without flinching if this current system collapses. Where our educated and uneducated would most likely go into riot (and completely lost mode). Not that the Amish wouldn't feel it (at all) because they have adopted some ways (they were at one time resistant to) but they are far better off (for not doing so). Not becoming reliant on what we take for granted, because of either laziness and/or dependency.

Carpenters learned from carpenters, tentmakers from tentmakers, cattle keepers the same. Those bigger schools seem like such a racket. When all is taken away, what do the majority of them have that will do them any good when it come to the basics? I would sooner covet the presence of an Amish man then some millionaire CEO big shot who couldn't do a thing for himself (or anyone else for that matter) if he wanted to in a bad time like the above.

We don't know because the bible does not tell us how many he made before or after he was saved.

Paul could read and write, and probably memorize chunks of scripture, as well as make tents (he needed to make a living), and God turned all these earthly talents, all this earthly knowledge into a tool for His Glory.

The NT says to avoid earthly achievements, and the world and the flesh are regularly frowned upon.

So, would pursuing a college degree be considered an earthly achievement?

I don't want to be worldly, but I don't want to lose mental sharpness either!

The term 'worldly' in the NT refers to desires and motives typical of the unsaved. Worldly in that context refers to the majority of people who are not saved/in Adam/carnal. Maybe carnal is the best term.

In the profession of farming, a farmer might be a believer or an unbeliever. Some farmers, in order to be better farmers, go to college and get a degree in agriculture. A medical doctor might be a believer or a non-believer. An accountant might be a believer or a non-believer. All of these professions are 'neutral', which means they can be held by a believer or non-believer. In the pursuit of ones profession, one can approach it either carnally, or Godly. So, education is neutral. It is what you do with the education which separates believers and non-believers.

If your goal is to become wealthy or gain personal power, then those are carnal desires. If your goal is to support your family, support missions, help others, give to God, then your goal is to be a servant with your money, and is Godly.

Getting your drivers license would be an "earthly achievement" then, too.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
