You seem to be confusing PREvention with INTERvention. Address my actual arguments or I will not continue this discussion with you. I am discussing making sure things don't happen to start with, not making sure someone is there to blow a criminal out of his shoes before too many get shot.

But how do you "prevent" a massacre?  I mean unless you are clairvoyant and can predict the future how exactly do you prevent any massacres or any other kind of gun violence from occuring??   I mean, all we can do is intervene, logically.   We can't possibly anticipate when someone is going pull out a gun and start shooting.

It would be interesting to see how you would envision measures that would guarantee total prevention of gun violence.  Care to share how you think that could be done?

quote MsRational:  "I also do not look at Wikipedia as evidence, since it is a highly unreliable source."

Do you ignore footnotes too?  At the very bottom of that Wikipedia article there are about 192 sources to reference to and "fact check" the article with.

quote MsRational:  "So pointing a gun at someone isn't irresponsible? You aren't really improving your argument."

There is a distinction between irresponsible gun use and unlawful gun use.  And for someone that is being as condescending as you are, no one here should have to make that distinction for you.

In some cases, yes, irresponsible gun use can be considered unlawful, but the point you seem to be missing, or ignoring is intent.  The person in this shooting was intent on acting unlawfully and maliciously, not irresponsibly.

quote Ms Rational:  "I am a data person so show me data, not websites that might sort of agree with your views."

The following sources were in that article you callously dismissed.

We all know that you are discussing prevention.  We are telling you there is no way to prevent gun violence unless you ban guns from society.  And there is no way that will prevent murder sprees from happening.  1978, 909 Peoples Temple members were killed by drinking cyanide laced kool-aid.  Violence against one another will continue and people will continue inventing new ways to do that.  You cannot ban violence, you can only face it courageously and hinder it if you are capable.

Banning guns wont prevent gun violence. Mexico is a good example of that.

Just a few of the killing sprees with other weapons:

 23 January 2009

At least two children and one adult are dead after a knife-wielding man attacked a creche in Belgium today.

Earlier, prosecutor Christian du Four said two children and an adult were stabbed to death and 10 others were injured in the attack, which took place in the small town of Dendermonde, 20 miles west of Brussels

A knife-wielding man injured 22 children and one adult outside a primary school in central China as students were arriving for classes Friday, police said, the latest in a series of periodic rampage attacks at Chinese schools and kindergartens.

No motive was given for the stabbings, which echo a string of similar assaults against schoolchildren in 2010 that killed nearly 20 and wounded more than 50. The most recent such attack took place in August, when a knife-wielding man broke into a middle school in the southern city of Nanchang and stabbed two students before fleeing.

IKEDA, Japan -- Eight children were killed and 15 people injured in Japan's worst school tragedy on Friday when a middle-aged man with a history of mental illness went on a stabbing rampage at an elementary school in western Japan.

It was the worst mass-killing in Japan since the 1995 fatal sarin gas attack on crowded Tokyo subways by the Aum Shinrikyo (Aum Supreme Truth) cult which left 12 dead and thousands ill.

Maksim Gelman, a 23-year-old druggie and “street punk,” allegedly stabbed his 54-year-old stepdad to death in the early-morning hours yesterday in their Sheepshead Bay apartment and sped off in the luxury car.

He resurfaced 12 hours later to kill his ex-girlfriend and her mom, before stabbing another man in a carjacking and running over a pedestrian as he made his getaway, sources said.

He stunningly resurfaced in the early morning hours today and committed two more attacks, sources and witnesses said. Shortly before 12:55 a.m. he tried to carjack a livery cab, stabbed the driver but failing to get the car. Moments later he carjacked a Nissan Maxima, stabbing the driver and getting away with the car.

A teenager allegedly killed eight people and injured five in a knife attack Wednesday night in northeast China’s Liaoning province, local authorities said Thursday.

The killing spree occurred at about 9 p.m. Wednesday in Yongling township in Xinbin Manchu autonomous county in the city of Fushun, the Fushun city’s publicity department said in a statement.

The 17-year-old suspect, a native of Xinfu district in downtown Fushun, stabbed to death two relatives of his girlfriend after having conflicts with his girlfriend, an initial investigation showed.

The teenager, surnamed Li, killed another six people and injured five while fleeing the scene, it said.

Akihabara massacre

June 8, 2008

At 12:33 p.m. JST, a man drove into a crowd with a truck, eventually killing three people and injuring two; he then stabbed at least 12 people using a dagger (initially reported as a survival knife), killing four people and injuring eight

I know, that's what we've been trying to say here.  Gun violence increases wherever gun free zones are instituted.  Gun violence will never be stopped unless every gun in the world is destroyed and the world no longer makes guns.  Even then, violence won't end, only the method in how it is carried out will change.

Rational-i never said the government was a gigantic hive mind I said it was power hungry, particularly those in the executive branch. Sure there's some good people but as a whole its power hungry. Every government in history has had that problem. some may start out good but over time power corrupts it. Before you put your faith in our government look at history-there is never a single incident of this not being true (with God being the only exception) rationally, history will repeat itself, already IS repeating itself. Those who refuse to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

It's far more complicated than that, I'm sure. What causes crime as we know it in society today?

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
