has anyone thought about joining the military????

there you get your three squares and a flop......

you get a monthly check ( sub standard of course but you do get one every month ( they pay twice a month) even if you do not do any work ) you might work anywhere from

8 to 24 hours a day. you do have shelter availible for you and your family ( if housing is availible ). you have education oportunities, with discounted tuition....

oh yea, equal pay for equal rank.

medical and dental availible to all active duty, and medical for dependants ( my oldest sons birth cost me about 35 dollars total, my youngest was only 21, both were C-section ) oh yea, i got to sit in and watch both being born.....

another plus for some people, you do not have to worry about what you need to wear when you get up, that is all written down in the Plan of the Day, under the heading of Uniform of the day......

just another option.....

So what should the state do

It is not the governments job to take care of us and meet our needs. It's also an unbiblical attitude.

has anyone thought about joining the military????

Irish, your posts are great, but I'd give up on the suggestions. There are people who aren't interested in suggestions, but only want to bash our country and it's government and our capitalism. I fear your help is fruitless, but I admire it.

I had not the stomach to deal with those who, in their own minds, are never wrong.

And, you don't see even a smidgen of that in Eadora, who has refused to concede to even a smallest point, or accept facts put forth, but continues to argue and argue ad nauseam? I left this conversation long ago because of that, so gmab. You mean - you never have beliefs that you stick to and don't change? Again, gmab. Just a low blow jab is all that was. Not impressive. I hope those like Shiloh, Irish and the others continue to believe "they are never wrong" in their Biblical viewpoints on this.

More government assistance only makes a person MORE dependant, not less....

That isn't the answer, Eudora.

Our government gave our citizens the guarantee of freedom. That means we all have the responsibility to find our own way. There are mechanisms in place for those who can't help themselves. There are all kinds of "benefits" like food stamps welfare which make our poorest citizens rich in comparison to other nations

But more than that there is the American people. No one is stopping you from taking care of anyone you want to help.

But honestly....I've never spent more than a day looking for a job when I really wanted one...and I don't even have a high school diploma. I learned a useful trade while being paid BELOW minimum wage and then it was just a matter of being faithful in small things.

Anyone can get hired but it takes dependable character to hold a job for a length of time that allows one to rise in any field of endeavor.

And remember that we all have the freedom to start our own business! This is not to be taken for granted because it is not so in most countries around the world. For about $10 you can get a DBA form and then all it takes is convincing customers that you are trustworthy. I did exactly that while in between jobs and on government assistance during the Reagan Administration.

As an employer and owner of a small business I can testify that I was ALWAYS looking for trustworthy people who were willing to work and show up on time. If you just show up on time and give an honest days work then you are in the top 20% of the people I've seen over the last twenty-something years.

And there were MANY unqualified people that I hired and trained simply because I needed the help and could tell that they were willing to work hard.

I appreciate every employer who ever hired me (even below minimum wage) because I learned something that made me a more valuable employee.

We are one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all. That is enough. It's our job to take it from there.

I would say that we should not allow the government to do anymore.....

in fact, i would like to see the government do less and less......

WHAT you say?????

exactly....

the government is toooooo big now.... tooooo controling....

Thomas Jefferson even made the comment ( cant not recall if it was just recorded as him saying something or if he wrote it ) that in 200 years the constitution will be corrupt ( or something to that effect ).....

the government is tooo big and toooo controling..... and people are willing to allow more and more control given over to the Government......

why not the Churches take care of the widows and orphans? and the rest of us work.....

people put down the Masonic Lodge, but they teach that we have 24 hours a day, three for our normal advocation ( our normal plac3e of employment, ) and 8 hours for the helping of others, and then 8 hours for rest and recreation.......

not a bad teaching......

how much time a day do others help people????? how about in a week? or a month??

I would venture to say that the majority of people in the church ( about 90 % ) do not even put in 8 hours amonth to help others......

to grow in Christ, we must forget about ourselfes... we must break our focus on our situation, our current situation, and look forward.... if we focus on where we are, we will be overwhelmed and burried in the garbage of every day life......

Look Forward to see what you can do for others..... not what you can get out of others.....

Even though it may be hard to do, I think that min wage should be different for every state or county even. For some places if you make min wage, you can afford the cost of living because it isnt very expensive. Other places if you make min wage, you can even come up with enough money for a 1 bedroom apartment! I think min wage should parallel with the cost of living. My husband makes $8.00 an hour. Let me tell you, that doenst cut it for a family of 3. I tried to get help through the state so that I could go to work and my husband could work, but I would need to put my son in daycare. If they were to pay for daycare part time while I am at work part time, I would have to still pay out more money than I would make. The state doesnt help the "woking poor" very much. Its sad. You have those who are not willing to work at all and they fork all the money over to them.. or those who have drug or alcohol problems so that their addiction can be supported! It drives me nuts! Okay.. before I go off on a wild tangent ill just restate... YES!!! min wage does need to be raised!

Faith, different states do set up their own state minimum wage laws and standards. The Fed sets it's own rate, and the states are able to go beyond that.

Many do.

Contact your state labor board to see what the minimum wage is in your state.

Forgive me for not sticking it out with you Eadora. I had not the stomach to deal with those who, in their own minds, are never wrong. I am quite impressed with your resiliance and stamina in the face of such strongly opposing views. I wish I could have helped you to speak out for those being left behind.

I am sure you would agree they are being left behind. All I can hear from your opponants is " maybe they should pick up the pace" . You say "but they have no shoes". Your opponants say" they should have thought of that when they left the house". You say " they had to sell their shoes to feed their family". Your opponants would say "That was dumb, they should have sold their shirt instead".

I am sorry but the lack of humility, compassion and charity by those who rebuke you simply astounds me.

I pray Jesus that you will go unto my brothers and sisters and lighten their hearts that they may find room enough for those who do not meet their standards.

Your loving brother in Christ Jesus.

What a bunch of baloney!!!

That is an entirely incorrect characterization.

I have not been mean to Eadora. Nor is there a lack of compassion for the poor. We are just tired of excuses.

Eadora simply does not want to face the facts.

He quotes statistics. He does not want "anecdotal" statements. What that really means is that he does not want to hear about the real life issues that no amount of statisitics can possibly anticipate.

Like Yod said, this is America. You can do what you set your heart to. If all you want to do is sit on the curb and blame "the man" for keeping you down, then all you will do is sit on the curb and starve.

Wow...this has gotten out of hand, saints. Don't let the frustration dishonor our Lord, ok?

Yod: I quote you.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
