The Name Of The City Of New Jerusalem on and they would be Pillars.

Going out no more. - Rev.3

 

And when the angel told John he would show him The Lamb's Wife.

The angel showed John New Jerusalem. - Rev.21:9,10

Some say she is Jerusalem. Some say she is Rome. But until I am convinced otherwise I still tend to think that Babylon is Babylon. Time will tell. Jerusalem has certainly been a strong option.

But with "Mystery Babylon" (?)

 

And with Jerusalem representing every prophetic scripture to this Babylon of The Revelation Of Jesus Christ?

 

Then I believe and present prophetic scriptures.

The woman is defined beyond doubt...

 

Rev 17:18 "The woman you saw is the great city that rules over the Kings of the Earth." Whenever did Jerusalem rule over the kings of the earth? They always lived under the exact opposite - gentile occupation and control.

 

This statement narrows it down to just one possibility - Rome in that day was the greatest city of the known world in the first century with a population of one million. Rome was the only city that ruled over the kings of the earth. The same woman who sat on many waters - means many kingdoms of the earth.

 

Babylon was also a euphemism for "Rome" as well. Peter greeted his followers by sending them a salutation from Babylon - Rome.

I agree that city is Rome. Rome is not a port city, but we must understand  Rome in the context of the common city-state politics of the time. The Roman Empire was a huge city-state where those said to be "Roman citizens" had the highest status across the empire. Thus the power and trade of the city is represented across Western Europe, which was the area of its control. 

 

I define the woman as Papal Europe,  the influence of Rome/Vatican in European politics over the last 1600 years, including a strong Vatican influence on the modern EU.

Ancient Babylon conquered, then later destroyed Jerusalem [and temple]

removing Israelites from God's holy land into what is called the Babylonian

captivity. Many Bible scholars count the 70 years of Babylon's rule from the

death of righteous King Josiah [609 BC] to 539 BC when Cyrus conquered

Babylon, liberated the Israel captives and decreed a portion of Israel return

to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple. Cyrus is an OT archetype of Christ.

Israel lived 200 years under Persian rule and knew that important history well.

So it is not surprising that "Babylon" is used in the book of Revelation as a

symbol of the end time global evil empire. Cyrus is also present in the book

of Revelation in historic/symbolic form.
