The news reports do not label the terrorists but given the flag they are holding, it is the flag of isis.  Sorry, it appears to be the flag of another terrorist group according to the first article, but googling shows its connected to isis.

The hostage crisis is over with one hostage dead and the terrorist gunman dead as well.

He is a self styled cleric who is facing murder charges for killing his wife along with his partner. He had yet to appear in court.

These kinds of people don't happen in a vacuum there is all kinds of stuff on Facebook and the internet that encourages self-radicalization.  Supposedly they are supposed to be monitoring for this kind of stuff on the Internet, but they are obviously not doing a  very good job of it.

Monis, also known as Sheikh Haron, pleaded guilty in 2013 to writing letters to relatives of Australian service members saying they were "Hitler's soldiers," according to Australian media reports.

Four of the hostages were seen being taken from the cafe on stretchers, with three possibly being in critical condition, Sky News reports. One hostage received CPR at the scene. There are also unconfirmed reports that two people are dead, including the gunman.

The suspect had previously been identified as Man Monis by local news reports, and the manner in which died still remains unclear but New South Wales police have confirmed his death. The identities of the two others killed were not immediately revealed.

the flag was apparently generic and not related to ISIS or whoever those people are ..

 

it said something about there being one God and one God only and that Alah .. or was it Muhammad is God's representative ..

I don't know why the police didn't shoot him at the start .. despite customers being in the café ..

what I don't get is why the Australian government let him in the country back in '91 anyway ..

as for the word siege .. that's a tad over the top .. he was outnumbered by cops and still held them at bay ..

its seems to me that here in Australia people who are muslim or who aren't Christian are given special treatment because of their faith ..

 

and people turn a blind eye to these people ..
