There's a difference between being a fundamentalist and being an ultra fundamentalist IMO. The first is good. The second is out of balance.

God bless,

GE

Just for my clarification, please define an ultra fundamentalist. Are we talking about legalism or something more?

Thanks!

Legalism is an all encompassing word... An ultra fundamentalist is one who goes beyond the 5 tenants of the Christian faith listed in the OP. There's a lot of examples: It can range from how people dress, to what people eat, to what people drink, to versions of the Bible, to extra-Biblical teachings, to treating the Bible as a god, views on birthdays, views on holidays, views on music, views on which day to gather for worship (Sunday/Saturday), views on tithing, views on other Christian Denominations, etc.

Doctrinally further it can take the form that all people have to have lots of kids to be godly, that only a certain view of end times is the correct  one, judgments on others based on their view of predestination, judgments on others based on other non-salvation issues, etc.

Does that make it clearer?

God bless,

GE

I confess to being a fightin' fundy.

I don't know what I am. I am just a follower of Christ teachings, Or at less I try to be. Maybe I am a seeker. Seeker Christian maybe?

If you are a "follower of Christ's teachings" then you are not "a seeker".  A Christian cannot be a "seeker", since you have found Christ and there is nothing more to seek. Therefore "Seeker Christian" is a misnomer. "Legalism" is another misnomer, since it only applies to those who seek to establish their own righteousness by observing the Torah.

But there is more to Christ's teaching than found in the Gospels.  Indeed the entire NT is "Christ's teachings".  And within the NT the apostles have prophesied that there will be "a falling away" -- a great apostasy -- before the Second Coming of Christ. Therefore it behooves every Christian to take a stand on Bible Truth today.  And once you do that you become a "Fundamentalist".

The state of Christianity today is that (1) very few hold to the true Word of God (the Old KJV); (2) very few preach the true and complete Gospel of Christ; (3) very few study the Word diligently; and (4) very few discern all the lies that Satan has brought into the churches.

Those who were "Fundamentalists" a few decades ago have already compromised their Fundamentalism, and introduced man-made doctrines and practices into their Bible schools and Churches.

Billy Graham is a good example of a Fundamentalist who walked away from Bible Truth.  There are many more, but that is as good an example as any.

I am a Fundamentalist and a Biblicist. All man-made doctrines and practices are unacceptable.  If that puts one in a very small minority, that should never be a concern.

I don't like to be labeled anything at all and I would be reluctant to label others as well. What did the Psalmist mean by "Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path?"  It would indicate that through God's word, I can see were I am and see the path that I should take.

Fundamentalism has seen better days, and I think its been associated with recent Muslim descriptions of terrorism.

A couple weeks ago when talking about the recent attacks in France, a girl in one of my classes basically said that all fundamentalists be it - Christian, Muslim, Judaism, militant atheist - are all 'misanthropes', and have arrived at fundamentalism to construct meaning to their sad and pathetic lives.

Hi River,

Originally, a fundamentalist Christian was someone who adhered to the fundamental doctrines of Christianity (the Divine Authority of Scripture, the Virgin Birth of Christ, the Eternal Deity of Christ, the Vicarious Sacrifice of Christ, the Resurrection of Christ etc.).

During the Iran hostage crisis (1979-1981), the western media, in an attempt to describe the ideology of Ayatollah Khomeini, began to use the phrase "the fundamentalist version of Islam" (even though no such distinction exists in Islam). That is when the connotation of ignorance, violence and extremism entered into the definition of fundamentalism.

So the only problem with fundamentalism is that term is often misused to negatively misrepresent Christians who are 'fundamentalist' according to the original definition, rather than the modern connotation.

fun·da·men·tal·ism
ˌfəndəˈmen(t)lˌizəm/
noun
noun: fundamentalism
a form of a religion, especially Protestant Christianity, that upholds belief in the strict, literal interpretation of scripture.
strict adherence to the basic principles of any subject or discipline.

Taking the Word of God for its word

God says what He means, and means what He says

Who are we to add our own color to the word of God.

1 Peter 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

Man did not make up this word, and man is not qualified to interpret it.

How are we qualified to decide what God meant...and what he did not.  That is the job of the Holy Spirit, to reveal the word to us.

Accepting what you cannot understand is the simple humble acceptance that God is bigger than us and our ability to comprehend Him

Once we leave the defined path God has set forth for us in scripture we enter the murky depths of our own reasoning, where there is little stability

Besides what are 50 shades of grey.....besides white polluted with black?

the only thing wrong with every sect and faction and denomination is they each have their own personal interpretation of scripture

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
