I wonder where they went to after the pigs fell off the cliff into the sea?

Asian carp?  sharks?  jellyfish?

they move freely through the water and come out and try to enter some other person....     I'm not sure we have the authority to send them to the pit...

That they might have entered another person is quite likely according to Scripture. As to sending demons to the pit, that is outside our authority.  As to casting them out of individuals, that may be reserved for some.  As to praying for their confinement, that is open to all.

Because He is God

The simplest answer is the best. It should always be noted that while ordinary humans beings would frequently not acknowledge that Jesus is the Son of God (therefore God), the demons always recognized Him and feared Him. Thus James says that the demons "believe and tremble", but this believing is the acknowledgement of reality, not the exercise of saving faith.

You know, in the gospels Jesus exorcized many demons just by telling them to leave. Why do you think they would obey the one they were constantly working against?

BTW we should distinguish between "fallen angels" and those who become demons.  All demons are fallen angels, but not all fallen angels are demons.  All false pagan gods are identified as "devils" or demons in Scripture, and those spirits which take possession of other creatures are also demons. "Ghosts" are in fact evil spirits, but may or may not be demonic. Hindu mythology also distinguishes between their many gods and demons( called "rakshashas").

James 2:19 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!

because the Father gave him the authority......    Jesus had the authority to send them to the bottomless pit until judgement day and the demons didn't want that.

Amen.  They cannot stay in the presence of Jesus.

And if Christ be in you then what authority do you have over demons?  Can you tell them to take a hike?  Have you done this?

Above questions are open to all to answer according to your personal testimony.

Humans have no authority over the spiritual realm whatsoever....     it is the Holy Spirit that dwells within us that has the authority to deal with demons...     And before we get all hopped up with pride about having within us the authority to cast them out, we should remember that there are some that takes fasting and prayer to get under control.....     one needs a serious joining with the Holy Spirit to deal with them all.

And when it comes to the fallen angels and not demons we should be always prepared to let the holy spirit guide our lives......    and when it comes to Satan himself, we should remember that not even Michael the Archangel dared to talk down to him.    And because of all this, we should approach the spirit world with caution letting the Holy Spirit guide our every move.

Just a little info from personal experience and a little Bible study to see why some things happen the way they do.

You know, in the gospels Jesus exorcized many demons just by telling them to leave. Why do you think they would obey the one they were constantly working against?

The only reason why Lucifer/Satan and 1/3 of the angels are able to fight against God is because he allows them to, and they know it.  He could speak the word and destroy them, or place them in chains to be tormented, or do anything to them he wants.  He is their creator, and they know that on the inside.  They also know that eventually, God is going to put an end to them, but for now, they are allowed to carry on.  When Jesus/God, tells them to do something, they quake in fear, because they are completely at his mercy.  If they had refused to obey, he could have cast them into outer darkness or worse right then and there, and they didn't want that so they obeyed.  They are in no hurry for the final judgment to come.

The bigger question to me has always been why they aren't spending their time pleading for forgiveness?  If I knew I was doomed, even if there was no assurance it would work, like the people of Nenevah, I would do what I could to get back in God's good graces.
