I've met Phil Donahue - was a guest on his show. He is much taller in real life then he appears, and was very nice when I talked to him. I offered a suggestion for a topic for his show and he had me write it down and give it to a producer and they did do a show on it.

Was also a guest on the Morton Downy Jr. show (does anyone remember that one?), but didn't meet him.

The BEST  - I met Newt Gingrich.  :emot-poke:  I almost had apoplexy, lol. I was SO excited. I was pumping gas in Virginia (on a road trip) and he pulled in behind me. I was falling all over myself, wondering what to say so I wouldn't look like an idiot, lol. I waited so long, that I had paid for my gas (with shaking hands) and I saw that he had pulled up to a parking space to go in and pay. Passed him going in/out, but still too dumbfounded to say anything. When I came out, his gas tank was open, so I closed it. I waited for him to come out and then told him that I closed his gas tank for him. I shook his hand and told him how much I admire him. He was super nice. I'm not usually "star struck" and couldn't care less about Hollywood celebrities, but was THRILLED to meet Newt, lol.

BTW - he was driving a huge, white SUV.  :emot-poke:

So........what famous person or people have YOU met?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I watched the Morton Downy Jr. Show when I was in High School. It was on TV right when I got home. It was classic tv. I just remember that guy smoking like a chain smoker and just yelling at everybody. It was hilarious.

Why were you a guest on the Phil Donahue show? What did you talk about? Wht was the topic you suggested that they did? Did you know that his show started in Dayton, OH? He attended Antioc College in Yellow Springs, OH. A supper liberal college in the the middle of the cornfields of Ohio. I attended a nearby college that was/is as conservative as Antioc College is liberal.

Well most of those you guys have listed, I have never even heard of, or are my mom's type of crowd. But I have met just a few.

I met the late Chris Farley outside the Water Tower downtown Chicago. I was ringing the Christmas Bell at The Salvation Army Kettle there and he walked past, then I saw him again, and I grabbed his leather jacket, and then discreetly asked him for an autograph and he put a nice donation in, even though he was so rudely interrupted. Turned out he lived next door in the Hancock Building.

I also met Steve Harvey at the same place for the same reason. Didn't say much, but talk about an entourage!

I met Amy Grant also at the kettle. She was with her kids and her mom. Amy asked us how to hail a cab, and one of her kids took a huge wad out of Amy's purse and stuck it in the kettle. Good people.

Ozzie Smith lives close to where I grew up, and my prom date knew where he lived. So he drove me there before prom, didn't really meet, but it was cool. He has a house in the back just for the maid.

Then at the many church functions I have met: Sarah Groves, Chris Rice, Dick and Melody Tunney, Chris Jaudes & Carol his wife (grew up with his daughter) Carol was the lead in CATS until it ended, and Chris plays solo trumpet in the pit for CATS and now still play on broadway. He taught me how to play my first instrument, and she taught my drama classes as a young person. Salvador, they are cute! and really down to earth guys.

I am sure there are more, I just can't remember them right now. I actually have a friend in the NBA. Corliss Williamson, but we call him "Peanut' (because of his peanut shaped head). That head was that big even when he was a scrawny little guy!

I met Van Morrison in a night club and he asked me to dance. I was very rude to him and turned him down. Ha! My friends told me after he walked away who he was. I did not know then. This was in my BC days (Before Christ) so please dont hold the nightclubing against me. :emot-poke:

Peter Scolari (Honey, I shrunk the Kids), Arnold Schwartzineggar, O.J. Simpson, Sydney Penny (The Bold & the Beautiful), and Caleb Chung who is a very dear friend of mine. Caleb is/was better known for the invention of the fabulously annoying (but nevertheless very lucrative ) toy, Furby.

Peter Scolari was the other half of an old TV program (Boosom Buddies) with a very young Peter Scolari and TOM HANKS.

Peter was later on Bob Newhart Program, the one where he ran the inn in Vermont, and various other programs. I think it was another guy that played the dad on Honey I Shrunk the Kids, but I can't remember his name? Maybe Ron somthing? (I am talking the movie).

AND PRETZELPERSON - YOU that OLD? LOL

I am in Ohio, also.

Scolari was in the T.V. series spinnoff of Honey I Shrank the Kids. Sorry, I should have been more specific. He was also a character on the Newhart Show in the 80s, which is when I met him.

In the movie Honey I Shrunk the Kids, it was Rick Moranis who played the husband. :emot-poke:

Peter and Mary (as in Peter, Paul and Mary)

Mary Was hilarious She had a coughing fit  in the middle of her performance at starlight theatre in Kansas City. When she finished coughing she looked at the crowd and said "Bad Weed"  and went right back to her number. I laughed for a hour   Peter, However was not my favorite person that night. He invited a whole gaggle of people back stage after the performance and sang Puff the magic dragon about ten times with various guests while I was gaurding him The only thing puffing after about a hour of this was the smoke coming out of my ears. I had had enough and was ready to go home. :taped:

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Sounds like we had a similar job at one point. I met Marry after the show. I rember her being very friendly, but as I remember her "talking" voice was not nearly as smooth as her singing voice.

I know, I saw a bunch of old people well past their prime!! There is nothing like watching some has been trying to re-capture a moment of their glory days of past. It is even "better" watching the fans of the "has beens" re-living their youth en mass.

My "meeting" with Chubby Checker was actually more of an "encounter" in the early 90's (I was in my early 20's.). A fan decided that she wanted to jump on stage and "twist" with Chubby. My job was to make sure that she didn't get the chance to twist with Chubby. I failed. A middle aged women jumped on stage and was out twisting with Chubby. I ran on stage and put my arms around her and was carrying her off stage and Chubby Checker made it very clear to me that he wanted to dance with her.

About eighteen years ago, I met Jesus and now He walks with me and He talks with me and He tells I am His own and He has assured me that if I endure to the end I can move in with Him. Well I'm, eighty two this year and I'm already packed and I am excited. PRAISE THE LORD!

I thought you just might like to know that.

cheers,

eric.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
