Chapter 16 - Mark's ending

I like this text. What do you think: What is new default_happy.png of the new? For these 6 Verses. Mark 16, 15- 20 (NIV version) feel free to use your text.

15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”  19 After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. 20 Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.

Best wishes – M

I have no idea what it says in German, or how the German comes across so I have no idea how to discuss this with you.

1. Contrary to all the modern Bible versions, the last twelve verses of Mark are genuine Scripture. There is a book by that name by John William Burgon to prove that this section was deliberately removed from some manuscripts.

2. These are the departing instructions of Christ to His apostles, including what is known as "the Great Commission".

3. The Gospel would be authenticated with the sign gifts given to the apostles (as listed).  They are also called "the signs of an apostle".

4. After giving these instructions, the Lord Jesus Christ ascended into Heaven bodily, and is now seated at the right hand of the Father.

It should say exactly the same, because both English and German are translations of the same original.

I don't know any NIV-user who would ignore these verses. I have done a Bible study on them. The very fact that there IS an NIV translation of them says something, doesn't it?

To address the OP, here is just one thought:

The Gospel was not just for Jews, nor even just for people living in Palestine; it had universal relevance and application. In fact, it is good news not just for human beings but for the whole of creation. It is the announcement that ‘our God reigns!’ (Isaiah 52:7) And once we understand this, nothing is ever the same again.

I"m not sure what you are asking.  He told His disciples to go into the world and preach the gospel.  To lay hands on the sick to cast out demons, then Jesus was take up into Heaven to sit at the right Hand of the Father. What is your question?

There is discussion to leaf this out, yes! From 320 AD church father Eusebius reported that the first Marks gospel text do not contain [9- 20 verses]. The power was in the precious early writings. Ending is open. To understand what happens will not weeken any of our beleafs. (Though the meaning of ending is very diffrent. I pray that we understand better- were the diciples stood in the 3 early centuries.) The Tone of the given passage may be less cross centered. Most of the content – we find backed up in other text.

A week point of the discussed text here - can most likely be melted down and reduced to 2 following verses. The writer shared a command of our enabeling: We can like verse 18) handle snakes and poison – very alike Paul did in Acts. And the writer of Hebrews shares about our highpriest similar as we see here in Marks verse 20) as seated with God. Each of these verses had at least 40% more neutral content. More than the 10 other verses in Mark 16,9- 20 – all content is backed up and reads very edifying. It had helped many christians in there walk and builds up more understanding of our present calling.

Thanks all for sharing – M

Actually for vers 20. 'Seated at the right hand of our Father.' I have not found parallel scripture. Have you seen any @Ezra? More for tomorrow...

Melony,

There are many Scripture which reveal that Christ is now seated at the right hand of the Father. Here is one from Hebrew 1:3,4 KJV:

[Christ] Who being the brightness of his [God's] glory, and the express image of his [God's] person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;  Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.

We should not - feel much thread ! Other than (calculating or) giving a vague figure below, this going through more extended lists never edified much. So I decided to not mention more about minor or miniscule changes. Let see what there is:

(1) HE sais: Love your enemies,[bless them] that curse you Mt 5,44;     (2) Jesus... rebuked them, and said [what manner of spirit are ye of].Lk 9, 55.    (3)  this ending of Mark [16 9- 20];                         (4) An adultary word  [ John 8, 1-- 11 ] that makes it 2x 12 verses. [= not in old text wittness]

At Mt 15,39 a single-word on this is: 'Magadan', the name of a galileen harbor. Or containing the other hint 'Magdala' (is likely the King James -versions used). Such wording might lead one to suspect also the greek text of a personal bible. I have crosschecked that many times.  I will give a vague calculation for 4 gospel content below (with my disclaimer – in some cases it is not easy to tell and proof). Going through more extended lists had in my hands - never edified much. So I learned to not mention more minor or miniscule changes.  - I hope that helps.

We, as a 'worthy' Jesus orientated community - might not have to look into this in far details. And many of us would not work through such things our selfs. Though some of the more qualified might proof there accuracy and deligence in this field also. This will one day help those (of very few) that realy want to know about this..I count 26 changes in our 4500 gospel verses (like above). In the first 1400 years of non-print-copying (befor Luther) there may be up to a total of 200 (like 4,44%) of gospel verses having to do with any (miniscule or) minor text diversion. One eight's of that is what y see here above. It is not more

Yours - M

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
