the earth does not remain::::

2 Peter 3:9-13
10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up. 11 Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, on account of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with intense heat! 13 But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.

The sun will be darkened 5 times during Daniels 70th Week.

3. During the 5th trumpet V 9:2

4. During the 5th vial at the end of the Week V 16:10.

5. Immediately after the future tribulation at the second advent (Matt. 24:29; Isa. 13:10; Ez. 32:7-8; Joel 2:31; 3:15; Acts 2:16:21).

The sixth seal (Rev. 6:12-17), the wrath of God begins. In the first five seals we have the wrath of man, but with the sixth seal God begins to pour out His judgments because of the persecution of His people on Earth. There are seven great events that happen under this seal: an earthquake, darkening of the sun, turning the moon to blood, falling of meteors, rolling back of the heavens, moving of mountains and islands, and the beginning of God's wrath.

These things will not continue for ever, the Earth's not going anywhere, New Jerusalem is coming to the Earth.

Gen 8:22, While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease. There can be no day and night with out the sun and the moon.

You think I am not correct, its you who has no idea, and you can believe that the new Jerusalem will be swinging in space where no man can go all you want also! If the new Jerusalem is not going to be ON EARTH as many Scriptures, which you ignore, or refuse to believe, then God may as well not go to the trouble of bringing it half way down, and just leave it where it is now, IN HEAVEN!

Hi Hazard,

Some other points to think about -

1. The New Jerusalem is made in heaven, thus it is of a different substance than earthly materials.

2. The Universal area where reigns the Principalities & Powers, will have God`s rulership in the new heavens (plural) & new earth. God made all those areas & made rulership positions there. Satan usurped that area of power but he & his fallen angels will be thrown out. Later God will bring down the New Jerusalem to be the rulership in that realm. Each realm will have rulership through Christ & all under God.

3. The earth is not the centre of all God`s activities, but the Universe & beyond, bringing all under the Lordship of Christ.

Marilyn.

From what I have seen and read the New Jerusalem is not physically on our earth but hovers over the earth.I thought that the New Heavens and the New Earth are different than the New Jerusalem. And not everyone will inhabit the New Jerusalem.

The New Jerusalem is above the Earth. This is demonstrated by Scripture, which tell us that the City will serve as the light source for the entire Earth.

The place where the city settles on earth is turned into a vast plain, when God removes earth to produce mountains on either side of the city. This also forms oceans to the two opposite sides of the mountain or city. So we have mountains and ocean surrounding the city. See Zechariah 14 as a sample text.

This development on the earth causes the overall incline of the city to decrease, down to 5 and 25 degrees, depending on where one is standing.

And the purpose of the walls?

The walls of the city, described as “great and high,” are an obvious symbol of exclusion of all that are unworthy to enter the city. Though innumerable believers will enjoy its glory, there is the chilling reminder that only the redeemed may enter. In the wall itself are twelve gates guarded by twelve angels and inscribed with the names of the twelve tribes of Israel. In keeping with the square shape of the city, the gates are located on each of the four sides as specified in verse 13. It is noteworthy, however, that not only are the twelve apostles represented but also the twelve tribes of Israel. This should settle beyond any question the matter of the inclusion of Old Testament saints. It apparently is the divine intent to represent that the New Jerusalem will have among its citizens not only believers of the present age, but also Israel and the saints of other ages, all of whom make up the Church of Jesus Christ.

But a final question remains: if those within the walls of the New Jerusalem are the saved, who then are those outside its walls? The last three verses of chapter 21 gives us the answer: “On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there. The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it. Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life” (Revelation 21:25-27). The city’s gates in the wall will never be shut. It is not that outside of the New Jerusalem, unsaved people are still roaming around, but this pictures a city with open gates on a new earth where believers will dwell throughout eternity. Ancient cities shut their gates at night for security purposes. However, since there will be no night there, and since all evil will have been eradicated, these gates will stay open constantly. Revelation seems to picture a great amount of activity coming and going from the city, but all who go in and out are those redeemed by the blood of the Lamb. The unredeemed are a long way outside the city’s walls—in the “outer darkness” of hell (Matthew 8:12), consigned to the lake of fire (Revelation 20:14-15)—and can never come near the Holy City.

Jesus Himself, as well as John, specifies the “impure” as those who will not enter the city: “Outside are the dogs who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood” as well as the “cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, and all liars” (Revelation 22:15). By contrast, those people whose names are recorded in the Lamb’s book of life are free to enter the Holy City; they possess life eternal and belong to their faithful Savior Jesus Christ. The Lamb, who bought them with His blood (Rev. 5:9), will never blot out their names from His book (Revelation 3:5) and will grant them the right to the tree of life and entrance into the city (Revelation 22:14).

Though the description of the city does not answer all our questions concerning the eternal state, the revelation given to John describes a beautiful and glorious future for all who put their trust in the living God. Conversely, it reveals to us that when the end does come, no opportunity will remain for one’s repentance and acceptance into heaven. The truth is this: spiritual renewal takes place in this present life, not in the afterlife.

The walls are about 80 m tall, about the same in yards for the Americans. How many levels is that? At least 25 stories high.

From what I have gathered, they are equal in thickness. Which is quite bulky. But from outer space, they would only be a hair's breadth, but on ground level the wall would seem great and high, obscuring the view within, except for the pinnacle some 2,200 km away, like another distant mountain.

It is likely that the gemstones which make up the foundations and walls, imbibe and emanate the light of God, hence John could describe the foundations as the city was descending from heaven. And such a wall with neon qualities would provide a beautiful border.

The light of God encircles the earth through the atmosphere, and it enters through every created object. It does not allow any place seem neglected and dark. The Bible says something along that line as quoted by Hazard.. From what I imagine it polarizes and changes direction wherever darkness exists, dispelling shadows with hues of color.

On a hike in the bush, I discovered a cave on the dark side of a mountain, and saw light coming out of the cave, which happened to come from the walls which were covered in dewy moss, reflecting the light of the entrance, and I imagined that God's light would have that effect, although not in the same way.

It is very likely that dark places like the depths of a lake, will have some luminosity allowing you to see the life below, and that even certain plants, fish and coral will produce colored lighting effects through various means. For example it has been discovered that ancient forests had phosphorescence in some plants and fungi. (Bio-luminescence).

Thank you Bopeep & Kan for your comments. very interesting. However we need to think what is the need for actual walls when we have the whole earth to explore. If they were physical walls they would not keep out the unredeemed as they are in hell. So there is no need for physical walls. I see that the dimensions are symbolic of Christ`s work.

We know that the whole Bible is centred on Christ, past present & future. God the Father has revealed to us so much of His beloved Son. And when we come to the Book of Revelation, the unveiling of Christ as He is known in the heavenly realms, it is the culmination of all that has gone before. The climax to the Book of Revelation is our Lord. So I do not believe that the great climax is a city with physical walls. To say that is my inheritance, to me is to not understand Christ`s great work & the fulfilment of that in the New Jerusalem.

Walls are symbolic of protection, & who has protected His people, - Christ.

how has He, - through His sacrifice,

& what office does that represent in eternity- the priesthood.

Size of the `walls,` = 144 cubits. cubit -Heb. `ammah,` a bond, & `emah,` a multiple of 10, eg. 1,000.

The priesthood of Christ through 144, 000 bomded priests  of God. (Rev. 14: 1 - 5)
