I use a lot of translations but rarely KJV.  It is harder for me to understand because I have reading disabilities.   I prefer the most literal word for word translations.  Some of my favorites are:   New King James, NKJV;  Amplified Bible, Amp;  Expanded Translation by Wuest;  English Standard Version, ESV.  'Used NASV for years.  (I possess many other versions).

My favorite study Bible is the Thompson Chain Reference NKJV.  It has a very good concordance, meanings of names, and a print out of most verses on a subject.

Favorite tools are Vine's Expository Dictionary, and The Complete Word Study Dictionary- New Testament by Zodhiates.

Favorite online sites are: E-Sword, which has free downloads of most versions and commentaries that are not copywrited, and you can buy others that are your favorites.  So I have Matthew Henry, Barns, Darby, JFB, Expositor's and a few other commentaries on that.  Studybible.info is also a good free site and it allows side by side comparisons of versions.  I rarely use the commentaries in study bibles, but NIV Study Bible has a more impartial commentary.  It gives several views on difficult subjects.  I just rarely read NIV.

I encourage people to at least compare with a version that is easier for them to understand, but i discourage the use of paraphrases that are not even translations but are just peoples opinions of what they think it means, such as the Living Bible, The Message, and the Good News "Translation".

Like enoob, I have my high school New American Standard.  But I've done some master's classes at a local Christian university and they requested we use the New Revised Standard, so that has been what I have been using to do my studying.  I have LOGOS Bible Study software and love it.

Don't you think anybody got saved reading this translation?

Gods word will not return empty...

Is. 55:11

New International Version
so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

Hi CAt:)

I heard that the NAS is actually one of the most accurate translations,

Nice to see you post on the board :)

Yes one of the most thankful areas in my life, as far as when 1st born, is the electronic age where all my library of Theological
books in the 900's can be searched Boolean wise in under two minutes... conjoined with The Holy Spirit as Leader and
Teacher of my soul I rejoice :D in knowing God!!!!!  Love, Steven

I'm so tired of all those conversations and arguing about translations.,do they ever stop?

Please God can use any Bible to get the message across..

God can use a newspaper if He wants, don't you agree?

God certainly indicates this with Rom 1:18-20 :D  BUT  His creative Word and written Word the foundational aspect...
