Putting this in US News rather than U.S. Politics because it's about the people of the country.

Higher education is isolated, insular and liberal. Average voters aren't.

The most important divide in this election was not between whites and non-whites. It was between those who are often referred to as “educated” voters and those who are described as “working class” voters.

The reality is that six in 10 Americans do not have a college degree, and they elected Donald Trump. College-educated people didn’t just fail to see this coming — they have struggled to display even a rudimentary understanding of the worldviews of those who voted for Trump. This is an indictment of the monolithic, insulated political culture in the vast majority our colleges and universities.

It is a ridiculous theory that ignores that many "educated" people have had their degrees for decades and have not been part of the college experience since then and have nothing to do with the "insulated political culture" being spoken of .  I got my first degree in the 70's and added a couple advanced degrees after that via non-Traditional methods.   I spent my entire career in the most "conservative" of industries, the defense industry.  I left college a conservative and stayed one till conservatives stopped being for smaller government and more personal freedoms.

It is not so much that college educated people could not understand the worldview of the Trump votes, but that we have the knowledge to understand the true dangers to many of the things that Trump proposed during the campaign.

stereotyping people can work both ways. . The left had carved out a niche in society doing that, but as you can see from the last election it is loosing it's potency.  The left took different subgroups of people for granted and lost their rear ends? Education don't make you anything more than more educated. It's the indoctrination into ideology that is so deleterious to critical thinking.

Without education we wouldn't have the advancements that distract so many uneducated people from paying attention to what's going on around them. The educated people only get paid more for creating the stuff uneducated people sleep outside stores for three days to buy

And we would not have doctors and teachers and nurses and engineers and...well you get the idea.  It is always interesting to read the views of education from different groups of people.

This data comes from the same exit polls that basically said trump was going to lose in a landslide, though, so how trustworthy is it? These statistics are being carped on as facts but we really do not know what happened yet. It may be months before we know *precisely* what happened. It's going to take a lot more in depth research in the post election period before we can say with certainty who voted for who and why.

If the numbers change drastically let me know.   Right now the college educated white person came in at 2% for Trump, even if they are off by 20 or 30 points, we still don't have most college educated people voting for Trump.

He won college educated white *republicans* according to exit polls. I don't know where you get the 2 percent overall number, but that sounds absurd. No major demographic could've possibly went to hillary at 98 percent with how the numbers turned out. My guess is that a lot of people simply did not want to tell exit pollsters that they voted for him, because they didn't want to be judged. That also speaks to a bigger problem in the country, though, if true.
