That if we could save ourselves in anyway; there would have been no need for the cross. But we can never pay the debt we owe, that is why Jesus died on the cross. Was to pay our debt. When a person hears the gospel, the holy spirit helps the person to know that what they are hearing is truth. If they don't accept it in this life time, they won't accept it in the next.
