I have no feeling of affection for Him! I know that joy is a fruit of the Holy Spirit, so the fact that I don't have it terrifies me. I know that Christians should fight for their joy, but how can one fight for their joy if they're no longer even sure they're a Christian? It feels like a huge weight has been added to my already-heavy shoulders, and I'm stuck in a loop: I can't have assurance because I don't have joy, and I can't have joy because I don't have assurance. Is there any hope for me? Hello and wellcome, Not everyone's situation is the same, I understand that Jesus is working with you, there is nothing wrong with the way you feel, time will come that you will see things different, it takes time, it's like a tree that leans on one side, it took time to get there and it's going to take time to straiten it up. You see people happy in the Lord and have joy and clap there hands and sing and pray and they are happy, sometimes they cry but they are happy, but you do not know their story and how long it took them to find their way out of their heaviness. The last but not the least, do not try to be a Christian, because you are a Christian already by faith, just give some time to be a Christian in habits. Try not to think a lot about your past, try to think about good things, happy, funny, houmorous, and if you derive satisfaction and joy from working out your salvation through good works, that's ok, along the way you will learn to accept Grace and love from God, you don't need to love Jesus as long as we respect, this also a type of love, we don't speak bad about someone it some virtue kind of deeper than love. Let Jesus love you in your strangles and in your goodness. Edited March 6, 2018 by Your closest friendnt

If you believe that Jesus is Lord and God come in the flesh for sinful men and that He is the only path to eternal life and you have repented of your sins and turned your heart and soul over to Him then you are saved. Yes there is joy, but God doesnt expect us to be totally marinating in it every single day. We are all going to have hard times and heaviness of soul occasionally. What you are experiencing is likely demonic oppression (NOT possession- that is not the same thing, and genuine believers cannot be possessed). Satan doesnt want you to think you are saved. Cry out to God every night to be freed of this burden the devil is putting on you.

Ahh then that explains at least a part of it. New believers will often feel as you do, wondering if they are truly saved and if God has really forgiven them. I assure you, if you have truly repented and accepted Christ as your Saviour then you are good to go. You have that mustard seed of faith. You cant expect it to grow into a tree overnight.c That is something that will come with time

Hello @Vermillion, I know how you feel, for I have been there. @Adstar told you not to rely on feelings, but to trust God, and I second it. You are God's workmanship, He is working in you to will and to do of His good pleasure, so do not be afraid. Read what God has achieved for you in Christ Jesus, and believe what is written. Be thankful that you have no evidence within yourself, for your trust must be in God Himself, and not in how you feel. Joy will come, and grateful tears, as you read of what God has accomplished for you, in and through the sacrificial offering of His Son. Wait on the Lord, and He will fill you with Himself. Just Trust and do not be afraid. In Christ Jesus Christine 1

Sometimes modern people look for assurance is if it were insurance. Some wishing there were cell phone connection with God. All that is not the right key. Take it easy. Do not sin. If you did something wrong repent and do not do it again. Joy, affection all that in good time. Do not worry about that. Just stay calm. Nobody loves you more than God whatever happens.

And keep studying, there's a lot of liars in churches and on the pulpit. Matthew chapter 4 verse 4 Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'" Romans chapter 1 verse 28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. John chapter 8 verse 31,32 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, " If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. 2 John 9 Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. Job chapter 23 verse 12 I have not departed from the commands of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread. Matthew 11 28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Luke chapter 21 33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. Romans chapter 10 17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ. Mark chapter 13 31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. James chapter 1 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do. James chapter 4 8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Isaiah chapter 45 verse 19 I have not spoken in secret, from somewhere in a land of darkness; I have not said to Jacob's descendants, 'Seek me in vain.' I, the LORD, speak the truth; I declare what is right. Jeremiah chapter 9 24 but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the Lord. Jeremiah chapter 5 verse 1 5 “Go up and down the streets of Jerusalem, look around and consider, search through her squares. If you can find but one person who deals honestly and seeks the truth, I will forgive this city. Psalm 119 verse 114 You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word.
