Why is spirit spelled with a small s sometimes

I was kinda hoping for something a little deeper than that.

This anomoly happens sperodically threwout the scriptures. I'm sure there has to be a reason for it.

I believe that at the time of the KJV translation, the rules for English Grammar were not strictly codified as they are now, but my understanding is that 'spirit' was only capitalized when it was a direct name of deity, as in Holy Spirit (which is always capitalized in KJV).

It has been a long time since I studied Elizabethan literature, so I could be wrong, but if memory serves, that is the correct explanation.

All of the examples I gave were the spirit of God except one says spirit of the Lord

I refuse to believe this is due to human error when it is a universal belief that it is the inspired word of God.

Surely there must be a bible scholar amongst us who can solve this mystery.

Without a more in depth study of the passages that you posted, I would say simply that "spirit" reflects a characteristic or empowerment of God (or the spirit of man) where "Spirit" is the third Person of the Trinity.

Reread those passages of Scripture and see if it makes sense. For instance, being filled with the spirit of God's wisdom, understanding, and knowledge does not mean that the man was filled with the indwelt Holy Spirit. Why?

Prior to Calvary when and where Jesus shed His Blood for our sins, the Holy Spirit did not nor could not dwell in man. Man was still stained and unholy. So when the Word says that the spirit of God filled a man, it was in relation to that man receiving a special insight or skill from God empowering him to do whatever God called him to do to accomplish whatever task was laid before him such as building the tabernacle of the Lord.
