I've always viewed taking God's name in vain as more than simply using the word "God" in a sentence that isn't addressing him. I've viewed it as more, making god out to be a joke, or unimportant, or the things he stands for to be trivial.

With that being said, I'm starting this topic because I don't want to derail another thread I made regarding annihilationism vs eternal torment. However the topic is important to mention.

I used to believe in Eternal Torment until I had some experiences that I don't want to go into detail on or I'd be harassed or called a liar. You can PM me if you want to hear about them. Now, due to these experiences, I'm at war over which modus operandi is to be followed.

The topic of laughter has a lot to do with it. I ordinarily don't have much of a sense of humor, at least not in the comedian sense of the word. I am an exuberant person, and I take fun very seriously. If I laugh, its because I'm riding on a motorcycle through a wonderful setting. I'm not laughing because of pain.

I'm wondering if god has a sense of humor. I mean, I know he does, because some of my experiences clue to that. However, God seems to be pointing toward a life of laughter, whereas I was hoping more for heaven to be more... fantastic? More mystical and wonderful?

As far as laughter, I remember a scene in the bible where God is looking down at Sarah, who laughed because she was going to have a child at the age of 90. God responded, "Why are you laughing?" And she started trembling and said, "I didn't laugh." God replies, "Yes, you did laugh." I'm wondering if this is an example of god's sense of humor, or if he is being stern to her.

My question is this:

Do you think people and angels in heaven laugh, and in what context? What about God?

IF you want to know what God is really like, then just notice what Jesus is really like.....or as Jesus said...>"if you've seen ME, you have SEEN the Father".

Also, taking God's name in vain, is not to use the word "god" as a profanity, as "god" is a general term, and until you assign "Jesus" to this term or "Jehovah", etc, then its just a word.

But moreso, when you "Take God's name", to understand this, is to understand what a woman does when she gets married.....as she is taking the name of her husband......... So, as Jesus is the Bridegroom and the born again are the bride.......we have TAKEN HIS NAME, when we became born again..

Notice. :    "Jesus The  CHRIST"..... "CHRISTian"

So, how do you do this in vain?.......

1. You pretend you are a christian, but you are not

2. You are in apostasy, you have become a born again person, who has lost your belief, YET, you are still "performing" in public as if you are faith filled and true, while you KNOW you are faking it.

Gen 18:12  Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?
she did not LOL.  its not humor, its serious.

God has a sense of humor.  if He did not neither would we, who are made in His image and likeness.  The Book says Pro 17:22  A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.  Other versions read laughter instead of a merry heart.  but either way i think it hits the nail on the head.

I think there is laughter in heaven.  as far as context not worldly jokes or anything we see on TV.  it would be something edifying or holy.

I like that answer. We're made in his image. Good point.

You may have answered your own question bringing up Isaac, after all it was God who named Isaac (laughter)...

God said, “No, but Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his offspring after him.
(Gen 17:19)

I find the Book of Jonah full of humor also.

I agree ! There’s nothing funnier than spending three days and three nights in the belly of a whale......why, the smell alone has me in stitches !  Lol.....

That book frightens me. Do YOU want to be inside of a whale?

The Lord shall hold them in derision

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
