Ephesians 5

18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

What about this one?

I have read that some of the young kids that write to her think some of the characters are real.  Some want to attend the school that Harry Potter attends, they think it actually exists.

I don't think this is because of the books themselves, but because of a failing in parenting. It's a parent's job to talk about these things with their kids, and to decide whether or not their child is ready to read those books. As I've said, some should stay away from them. That doesn't discount them for everyone, though.

My opinion is to stay away from them.  They open the door to dark things.  There are many other books available for kids to read.  Who needs this garbage?

My children ages 9 and 3, won't be reading them.

See? You've made that decision for your kids, and that's great! But automatically labeling them as garbage seems like a logical fallacy to me.

"A man also or a woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death:  they shall stone them with stones."  Leviticus 20:27.

The Lord doesn't like witchcraft, wizards, spirits, spells, lies, fortune tellers, etc.

Why open the door and allow this stuff in your children's world?

In Christ,

CarolineS

Ah, yes, the witchcraft is evil argument. I've said it before: these books are fictitious. Their characters don't exist in our world, they exist in a version of it, which doesn't have the rules we do. Personally, I don't let that version of our world encroach on the real world, and I've never had a problem with withcraft.

I guess by your argument guys could watch a sexually explicit movie or porn, since it is "just fiction" after all? Same principle. Its still sin and ungodliness, just in a different shell. If imaginary sex is sin, imaginary witchcraft is sin.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

A very fallacious comment. I think I have made it very clear that people should stay away fromthings which tempt them. The whole purpose of pornography is to tempt. The whole purpose of Harry Potter is NOT to tempt, it is to tell a story.

1 Corinthians 5:6 - Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?

Galatians 5:9 - A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.

There may be a state limit on blood/alcohol ratio to determine drunkeness, but the word says a "Little leaven leavens the whole lump". Just a taste, and you have already sinned. See, drunkennes is not the deception of alcohol, the deception is in the fact that you think a little sin is ok, when it is not. Again, this is the same with these books and movies.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Did you miss teh verse in Timothy? OH, right, the whole "wine didn't necessarily mean an alcoholic beverage" thing. Have you taken biblical history? Their wine WAS fermented, therefore it DID have alcohol in it, just not AS MUCH.

Guess we'd better throw Timothy out with the bathwater, HE had alcohol!!

I would drink a glass of alcoholic wine in a room with Jesus. No problem. I would not drink until I got drunk. That is a sin.

This last part, bolded above. is the hitch satan used to lure me in. "Its just fantasy, its just a make believe story in a made up world that has nothing to do with reality." Pretty soon I found myself reciting the Wizard's rules and obsessed with the stories from Star WArs, WOT, LOTR, SOT and so on. I have been told by many people that I am very strong willed and very strong mental focus, but I was powerless once I let these "children's books" take a grip in my life. All I was doing was reading them. I didn't go around sacrificing animals and such, liek a real witch, but sure as I'm sitting here, it took control of me and it got worse and worse.

I'm sorry to hear that. However, not everyone is the same.

Scripture against "innocent fiction", particularly of the sort of which we speak....

1 Timothy 4:7 - But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.

2 Timothy 4:4 - And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

1 Corinthians 13:11 - When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

Ephesians 4:17 - This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,

2 Peter 2:18 - For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.

2 Kings 17:15 - And they rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified against them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and went after the heathen that were round about them, concerning whom the LORD had charged them, that they should not do like them.

Psalms 119:37 - Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken thou me in thy way.

Jeremiah 2:5 - Thus saith the LORD, What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Apart from the fact that over half of these only relate when taken out of context, I am not rejecting God when I read fantasy, and I'm not living according to those fantasy books. I do understand that that's what happens to some people, but it's not what happens to everyone.

No, it is to take your eyes off the Bible.

I find it strange that people have time to read 700 pages books about witchcraft, but can't read the bible. A child can understand and pronounce fake, satan-inspired words like "Voldemont" and "Gryfindor", but can't read the Bible? What's your excuse?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I don't need to make excuses, I DO read my Bible, as avidly as any of those books. I sincerely doubt that J.K. Rowling sat down and thought "I know how to distract those kids from reading their Bibles, I'll write a story!!" And if you're that easily distracted, then I'll say it again, DON'T read them. Not everyone is, though.

Please explain how "Voldemort" and "Gryffindor" are "Satan-inspired."

God does not forbid drinking alcoholic beverages such as wine. It forbids drinking to excess. Same with eating. Don't eat to excess.

Drink a little wine for thy stomach's often imfirmaties.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
