I think that Nebula is asking how the translation of the complete Jewish Bible stacks up against the more mainline translations such as NKJV and NASB and so forth. 

Pretty much - yeah.

So, from what I've heard, it sounds like it's a good secondary resource, but not a primary?

I enjoy reading mine, and it's helpful in that it has the parashot already laid out for you. But, to me, I pull out my NASB for cross-referencing if I need to. In his introduction, I think he said that he used the JPS Tanach as a starting point for his translation of the Tanach, but that the work on the B'rit Chadashah (sp?) was his own. It is a challenge at times relearning the names of people and places - I read a chapter from Acts to my Bible study group one night (they aren't messianic but put up with me ) and they were quite perplexed! It's a good copy to have, but in terms of study, I put it next to my New Living Translation ... good to get the general idea, but not the only "authority", if you kwim.

I have had a CJB for over two years now and use it right next to my Franklin KJV. I love reading the Hebrew names, the English translation is so crass, when you read the Hebrew names and use the Strongs to give you the meaning you will start to learn a little Hebrew and can see so much more that there is much in a name, very much.

I do agree that sometimes Stern goes overboard to bring out the "Hebrew Roots" but for the most part it really helps you learn more about the culture your Bible was written from.

I have a Bible called "The Scriptures" and I love it. It uses the proper Hebrew names and titles, also the books are in a little different order (according to the Tanak).

I love this Bible. To me, it is like GOD's breath. I read it and then read the same passage in my NKJV. I have to say, I respond more to "The Scriptures" Bible. One of my Messianic Friends gave it to me and it is wonderful!!
