what proof we are to have dreams and visions today?

I would think if God gave one such it would be telling them to take a godly action.  Somewhere in Acts Peter was given a vision of animals in a blanket being lowered to demonstrate the gospel is for gentiles too and exactly what was the action God wanted him to do?

BeauJangles Dream

I've been asked by a few to share this sometime, so perhaps it's alright now to do so. This occurred when I was about 36 or so, and was seemingly not a lengthy one.

In my dream I was in the midst of dark clouds in the sky, and all of a sudden Jesus appeared before me. Gazing on His form before finding myself near prostrate at His feet, I noticed His robe was deep burgundy, with a outer cloak of royal blue. There I was, humbly trembling in the awesomeness of His presence! He then knelt down, and took me by the arms raising me up in an all encompassing embrace.

Just a second or two, I caught a glimpse of His wonderful face. Oh my, and what a glorious face He had. I felt so much adoration for Him in that heavenly hug, and could find no words of expression. It was simply overwhelming to me. And without audibly speaking, I just felt as if He were telling me, how I was loved and forgiven. What astounding amazing grace! I woke then weeping. And it took some time in the afterglow of having dreamed this, before falling back to slumber.

Hi BeauJangles,  If a Latter Day Saint said, She had the same dream, would that be valid proof?   What about Joseph Smith's first vision?

You can doubt this dream if you care to. I can only speak of my own personal experience, ( a one timer ) and am no member of the LDS church. And Joseph Smith was an unmistakable false prophet. God bless!

Shalom,

Today’s Dreams and Visions
With the completion of the Bible, God does not have to use dreams and visions as much as He did before. That is not to say that He cannot or does not; God can communicate with us however He chooses. But when we have a decision to make, our first stop should always be the Bible, not a dream.

The dreams and visions occurring in Acts (in the church age) I could find are Cornelius' vision, Peter's vision/dream before the men from Cornelius arrived,  Ananias receiving a vision to pray for Paul to restore his sight, Paul having a vision about Ananias, and Paul's vision/dream about a man in Macedonia which was taken as guidance to spread the gospel into Greece rather than Asia Minor, God encouraging Paul in a vision in Corinth, and Paul seeing an angel at night just before the shipwreck.

The context of each of these seems to be to give guidance and confirmation as to a course of action.

I've heard various testimonies over the years of Christians having dreams and visions including some I know personally.  I find many of them credible.  I have heard some that I think are stretching it and probably trying to put a spiritual meaning on a typical dream.   What I've observed in the credible testimonies is that people usually knew there was something very different about these spiritual dreams and they weren't a typical dream.  Each addressed something going on in a person's life at the time.   The one characteristic that jumps out at me is that they are typically unexpected.  These people didn't sit down and expect to have a vision or spiritual dream, it was something that God simply did.

I've also heard credible testimonies of people who said they had visions or dreams of Jesus which led to their salvation.  I've also heard more than one missionary tell stories of how some people simply came to them and said they saw Jesus or an angel in a dream.

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
