Hey, everyone! I am enjoying the adventure of serving God!

Have you ever read the book of Acts and wondered why the apostles baptized in the name of Jesus and did not say in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost? Well, if you read where Jesus tells them to baptize in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost you will notice that the word 'name' is singular. So, what name was He talking about? The apostles knew that Jesus always spoke in a spiritual manner, and Jesus knew that the Spirit would reveal to them what He meant when He gave that commandment. The apostles did understand that Jesus meant that we should baptize in His name, 'for there is no other name given under which we should be saved.' Read Peter's sermon in Acts: 2-14-44, paying close attention to verse 38. So, why do many churches baptize using the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost method? Well, if you study church history you will find that when the Romans took over the church and created catholicism they changed a lot of things, one being taking out Jesus' name from baptism. That was the main thing that separated them from true Christianity. Satan has succeeded in perverting the most important thing we need for the remission of sins: baptism in the name of JESUS CHRIST. Any other form of baptism has no power. If people try to tell you that only Jews should be baptized in this manner (an excuse some will use) take them to Acts 10:44-48. I hope this revelation blesses you. I love you and may you be blessed with peace and joy everlasting!

Hmmm...our risen Savior in Matthew 28:19 said, "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:"

Here is the doctrine of the Trinity. Although not stated in the Scriptures under that terminology, the doctrine of the Trinity is nevertheless a true one, and appears throughout both the Old and New Testaments. The pronouns for God in Genesis are plural, as in "Let us make man in our image" (Genesis 1:26). Even the passages affirming that God is "one" employ a word which means a compound rather than an abstract unity. That Hebrew word is ['echad] and is also used in such passages as that which says a man and his wife shall be "one" flesh (Genesis 2:24), and in "the people is one" (Genesis 11:6). Thus, the "oneness" of God is like the "oneness" of a man and his wife, or of the people. In the New Testament, the doctrine of the Trinity appears in this passage, and at Christ's baptism (Matthew 3:16). Also, the benediction of 2 Cor. 13:14 likewise establishes the Trinity.

So, baptizing in the name of Father, Son, and Holy Ghost makes perfect sense to me... :D

My church baptizes in Jesus name, but I was wondering, in the book of Acts did the apostles get it wrong, :) or did they understand something that so many christians today don't? :21:

Scripturally, "in the name of" isnt always literal, it can also mean "in the likeness of" depending on context. When we are baptised by the Holy spirit, we too take on the likeness of the Father son and Holy Spirit, in that we become the creation he originally intended, the image of himself

If one were to be really pedantic, on the premise of being baptised in the LITERAL name, then even those baptised in the name of Christ should be dunked again, as the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit is "Yahweh"

Such legalistics are bordering on the same mentality as the Pharisees and sanhedrin that Yeshua rebuked them for. Such is the pitfall of debates such as the "Is baptism essential for salvation" topic currently being debated in "Controversial issues"

We are baptised in water, we affiliate ourselves with Christ Jesus, his death and resurrection and through it we demonstrate that we follow the One true God Yahweh.

Take care, or before too long you may find yourself stoning women for wearing ear-rings on a saturday.....

Have faith in your faith

Greetings,

Acts 10:48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

2962 kurios {koo'-ree-os}

from kuros (supremacy); TDNT - 3:1039,486; n m

AV - Lord 667, lord 54, master 11, sir 6, Sir 6, misc 4; 748

1) he to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has

power of deciding; master, lord

1a) the possessor and disposer of a thing

1a1) the owner; one who has control of the person, the master

1a2) in the state: the sovereign, prince, chief, the Roman emperor

1b) is a title of honour expressive of respect and reverence,

with which servants salute their master

1c) this title is given to: God, the Messiah

I agree with others, this verse DOES NOT establish that we should be baptized in ONLY Jesus "name".

Blessings,

Dad Ernie

All the records of the New Testament where baptismal 'formula' MAY be mentioned (and maybe it isn't by the way.....), are baptisms of Jewish converts.

However, in Gentile territory, we Paul found 'certain disciples' (Acts 19), who were believers, but had only had John's baptism.

Paul asks them: "Have you received the Holy Ghost since you believed?"

They answer they'd never even HEARD of the Holy Ghost.

Paul is flabbergasted, and he immediately asks them: "Then how were you baptized?" OBVIOUSLY Paul was aware of, and USED a baptismal 'formula' which MADE MENTION OF THE HOLY GHOST!

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
