Thanks Gerioke :noidea:  That's kind of what i was talking about.  If death is a cessation of life then what does the "second death" mean?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

The first death is when we cease to live and wait for judgement day in hell. The second death is the eternal torment in the lake of fire. I personally believe that since good and evil can't exist simultaneously in the same place that only the sinful nature of man will be in the lake of fire. I could be wrong though. :)

Hell is probably inside this earth and if u have any idea what it is like there and how hot it is then u know what hell is. But there is more to it than this. First, God is a spirit being and man is made in His image so man is a spirit being trapped inside a body. The body was made for the spirit being, to be inhabited by the spirit being, to be controlled by the spirit being. When our body dies it returns to earth from which it came, but u, a spirit being, will live forever, somewhere. If the story of lazerus is correct and I believe that it is, then we will be given a body that will suffer the torments of hell according to our sin. The rich man was a very moral man but his sin was greed and gluttony and he complained ONLY about his tongue being parched. This is just one of the torments of hell. Jesus said (what have u gained if u gain the world and loose ur soul). We r a spirit being with a heart or soul, (God said of the jews, I will send leaness into their souls). Leaness is the absence of God to whatever degree. Since the heart is where God dwells in us it seems that the heart and the soul is the same thing). Those that go to hell will have their soul or heart taken away and will forever be seperated from God. I hope this gives u a little better understanding.

Once again, thanks to everyone for your responses. They have been quite informative. My next question is that if the last enemy God will destroy is death, then how do we harmonize that with the current belief that the hell in the lake of fire will go on forever and ever? Also, If sinners are being tormented in fire forever, does that still mean that sin exists since its just burning?

If sin is disobedience to God and hell is eternal separation from God and evil is absence of God, then that leads me to believe that the lake of fire would be a refining fire. :emot-hug:

Can a non christian do good? If so, then what happens to the good that's in that person when he dies? If not, then how does one explain the likes of ghandi teaching things of virtue?

I'd like to add can any man do good? The answer to that is yes. Even an evil person can do good for those he likes. But that does not make him good. in fact there is no one that is good according to Jesus in Matt. 19:17

17And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

I enjoyed your response though...

Gerioke, I'm not a JW :24: They claim not to believe that there is no immortal souls, but I think that they sort of do, considering they're belief of Jesus' body not being raised, and their doctrine of the 144,000. So, they claim not to believe in an immortal soul, but I really don't believe in it at all. :24:

The reason for that is that I just don't see it in the bible. The bible says the soul dies. In fact, the phrase 'immortal soul' is no where to be found at all. The well-known verse of John 3:16 gives two options. Eternal life, or perish. Not, eternal life in heaven, or eternal life in hell.

What I find to be odd is when people try to prove their doctrines starting in a symbolic book like revelation, rather than at the beginning of the bible. The place to start is Genesis, and to work forward.

I don't mean to "hijack" a thread, truly I don't, but death and hell are rather inseperabe. And if Remnantrob is trying to see the reasoning for the different views on hell, than it rather inavoidable to begin there.

So, why don't we take a look at Genesis, at the creation of man.

Gen 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul..

He became a

1. What is hell? and 1b.) who's going there?

Hummmmm

I would define hell as seperation from God. Eternal burning without being consumed.......how do I put this??????? Hell maybe.

As to who is going there.... Anyone who has not chosen Christ as their Savior and Lord, who is able to understand their need for a savior.

I think that about covers it.

Atalyah, I think you've been reading my mind.........or at least the bible for that matter. That's where I was going with all of my (leading) questions, but God used you to put everthing into perspective in one post. I hope everyone reads it and is as blessed by it as I was.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
