An Observation.

There are two responses that are common to prophecy in scripture amongst those in the church.

One is to say it is just too complicated and ignore it altogether. Many churches today barely touch the subject of prophecy and rarely speak on the book of Revelation. We will call this approach "willful ignorance".

The second sets out to fully comprehend every detail of prophecy and then to set up a framework into which all of prophecy fits. This approach uses the carnal mind to understand prophecy and invariably leads to dictatorial rule as to whose view is correct and superior. We shall call this "carnal Hubris".

Each of these two outcomes is quite common in all Christian circles when approaching prophecy, and in neither of these views is the blessing of prophecy fulfilled.

The blessing of studying prophecy is reaching what I call the point of Humility. It is reaching the point where with Ezekiel and Jeremiah we come to admit "Lord thou Knowest". This is not a position of willful ignorance, but a position of knowing full well the complexities of Prophecy having studied it fully. Neither is this a position of carnal hubris in that we are admitting there are things in prophecy we cannot know only God can know and teach us. It When we reach this point of humility that He can begin to teach us to show us his intents. He will not teach one who does not want to learn. he will not teach one who thinks he already knows it all. He will teach one who is willing to learn. This being the big "sin" of the religious scribes and leaders. They sit in their pulpits of pride thinking they know it all and are unable to be taught any longer. Part of this is they have been hardened by their constant fight against heresies and this is a worthy reason, but the other part is that they have come to believe they know it all, and they have learned to trust in their own carnal knowledge.

But alas, as with Ezekiel and Jeremiah it was not until they reached the point of saying "Lord thou Knowest", they were given the greatest of their prophecies. Is this not also what the LORD corrected in Job in the final chapters of the book. Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge? (Job 38:2) The LORD then proceeds to ask a series of questions with no answer of Job. Job's response is what we need on this prophecy forum

Then Job answered the LORD, and said, I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee. Who is he that hideth counsel without knowledge? therefore have I uttered that I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not. Hear, I beseech thee, and I will speak: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me. I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee. Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes. (Job 42:1-6)

The Blessing of studying prophecy is coming face to face with a Holy God and realizing how inept we are at understanding the whole counsel of God. from that point on He can begin to teach us once again. With that I leave you and all who are leaders and elders in the church, with the question He gave me to ask as part of my calling. "Can the teacher still be taught?" Or as Jesus states He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. (Rev. 3:22)

It seems every body has their own unsurpassable knowledge of Revelation.

The Book of Revelation is the "Revelation of Jesus Christ" by the very title it is not a book we unlock with our mind, but a Book that he opens to us by teaching us. Therein lies the problem, and why so many miss the blessings of this book.

Yes, and many Christians go through this phase of thinking they have it all figured out, myself included.... I am sure you have as well. Mental Hubris is a common malady among the faithful, and until you come face to face with a Holy God we are all prone to this. There is a security in Knowing, which is hard to overcome, and many are in denial of this.

A great Hymn for this subject:

Open My Eyes, That I May See | Clara H. Scott

  1. Open my eyes, that I may see
    Glimpses of truth Thou hast for me;
    Place in my hands the wonderful key
    That shall unclasp and set me free.
    • Refrain 1:
      Silently now I wait for Thee,
      Ready my God, Thy will to see,
      Open my eyes, illumine me,
      Spirit divine!
  2. Open my ears, that I may hear
    Voices of truth Thou sendest clear;
    And while the wave notes fall on my ear,
    Everything false will disappear.
    • Refrain 2:
      Silently now I wait for Thee,
      Ready my God, Thy will to see,
      Open my ears, illumine me,
      Spirit divine!
  3. Open my mind, that I may read
    More of Thy love in word and deed;
    What shall I fear while yet Thou dost lead?
    Only for light from Thee I plead.
    • Refrain 3:
      Silently now I wait for Thee,
      Ready my God, Thy will to see,
      Open my mind, illumine me,
      Spirit divine!
  4. Open my mouth, and let me bear,
    Gladly the warm truth everywhere;
    Open my heart and let me prepare
    Love with Thy children thus to share.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

      Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

      This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

      You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

      Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

      I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

      For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

      2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

      So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

      Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
      Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

      Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

      As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

      Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
      Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

      So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
