One of the lessons we learn is to resist the temptation to sin. I would describe that as willpower.

Actually it takes Christ working in us to help us die to sinful behaviors (habits). Just when you think you’ve mastered a sin (defeated it) on your own, you’ve done another one.

Paul said of himself, “The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost” (1 Timothy 1:15).

Paul wrote 2/3rds of the New Testament and yet described himself thus.

Actually, it's partnership with the Lord. If we aren't willing to put forth the effort to resist temptation, we will get nowhere.

Yes. Sin may be crouching at the door, even knocking on it, but it can only enter if we let it.

Resist the devil and he will flee. Give the devil no foothold. Cast aside the sin that so easily thwarts...etc.

What is sin... The Bible teaches us that it has no substance / place with God

1 John 1:5-6

5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
KJV

The uniqueness of reality is to examine lie- in that- in order for lie to exist truth must first be and we see this in the fall of Lucifer now called satan...
Lucifer was perfect in all His ways according to God

Ezek 28:14-15

14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.

15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.
KJV

Quote

15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created,

This is seen here in the sanctification of all God created

Gen 2:1-3

2 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
KJV

Lucifer's fall was sometime after this sanctified creation which takes us to the begin of evil by lie...

Satan was given the ability to examine himself and what was given him to give back to The Glory God He kept as though it was his without God's doing...

Ezek 28:16-17

16 By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.

17 Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.
KJV

The first lie formed was the theft of what he was as though God had no part in it and the second result from the first inward lie was the he would be god
this is why God refers to satan as a murderous liar...
John 8:44
44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.

NKJV

He lied to himself in that he would be god

Isa 14:13-14

13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
KJV

this is the source of evil that is among us and it has no place with God nor should it with us born of God...

I suggest we can only stop practicing sin  through Christ in us (Colossians 1:27, 1 John 4:15), For He became sin for us who commited no sin, and died on the cross for our sins. Only He living in us can lead us into habits that are not sinful, i.e. practicing sin.

Do you make distinction between practicing sin and stumbling in sin? Is the goal you are setting forth to stop praticing sin?

Practicing Sin:

“No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God's seed abides in him, and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of God.” (1 John 3:9)

“And envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.” (Galatians 5:21)

To practice sin is to master it, to say even that it is not sin, which is calling God a liar, “If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place in our hearts”(1 John 1:10).

Stumbling in Sin:

”If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)

“1 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.
2 He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.” (1 John 2:1-2)

Stumbling in Sin is we all fail, we make a mistakes and transgress, but then we confess the sin, are forgiven, and ask Christ to help us not sin again.

The Lord told us to repent of our sin (Matt 4:17). I suggest we do as he said. We can ask him to help us.

But it's back to the purpose of the thread: We have to know what we are repenting of. The Pharisees added all kinds of rules on top of the rules the Lord gives us to follow. That is a mistake.

Do you believe a person can become sinless to the point of never again sinning on this side of the grave and thereby no longer need to repent?

That’s been my question all along.

I keep reiterating on Jesus is sinless (1 Peter 2:21-22, 2 Corinthians 5:20-21, Hebrews 4:14-15, and 1 John 3:5).

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
