Trouble is that we can't spot who his genuine and who isn't just by appearances.  This is because genuineness and hypocrisy abide in the heart which only God can see.   This is the principle behind the parable of the wheat and tares.  Hypocrites and genuine believers are identical in their outward conduct, Biblical knowledge, ability to talk the jargon, even to walk the talk.  They can be spotlessly moral and appear very passionate in their religion.  We won't know who is genuine or hypocritical until the judgment when the secrets of men's hearts are made manifest.

I’ve been searching and praying for a ‘real’ Christian friend for years. Think I’ve found one, finally :) (but I’ve been deceived before, so nothing surprises me)

It is interesting what Paul said about himself:

"Now it is required of stewards that they be found faithful. I care very little if I am judged by you or by any human court; indeed, I do not even judge myself. My conscience is clear, but that does not vindicate me. It is the Lord who judges me" (1 Corinthians 4:2-4).

This is a good way to be - to serve the Lord the best we know how according to what we have learned from the Scriptures, and to ensure that we keep short accounts with God and keep our hearts right with Him.

When Paul was a Pharisee, he sincerely believed that Christians were rebellious law-breakers.  He viewed his persecution of Christians as doing God's work according to what he knew of the Scriptures and from the guidance of his mentors.  It took a personal appearance of Jesus to totally change him and to set his heart in the right direction.

Many hypocrites sincerely believe they are on the right path, and by all appearances, they looks as though they are genuine believers.   This is why we must give everyone the benefit of the doubt and allow the judgment to come from the Lord Himself.   Sometimes, hypocrites are exposed in this life, but many are never revealed for who they are until the judgment.

That is why Paul's advice in 1 Corinthians is sound and good to follow.

Jesus’ brothers needed to meet The risen Jesus to be transformed too.

pauls reaction to the fortune teller following them?

Peter’s reaction to Simon the sorcerer?

Jesus didn’t say ‘be not deceived’ for nothing :)

All this is well and good, but what has it to do with the gift of tongues?

Catholics have over the years tried to debunk Irenaeus’ claim in in Against Heresies Book 2 Chapter 22 that Jesus lived to be about 50 years old. Why? Because Irenaeus invoked both Scripture and extra-biblical tradition to prove that Jesus “ was an old man for old men, that He might be a perfect Master for all, not merely as respects the setting forth of the truth, but also as regards age.” Obviously, this false teaching on Irenaeus’ part shows that, even as early as the second century, traditions can be made-up and staunch defenders of the Church are not superintended by the Spirit in which they can avoid botching Biblical interpretations.

And, if this can happen as early as the second century with a saint, what guarantee do we have that well meaning men have not erred when relaying traditions such as the bodily assumption of Mary (first written in the 6th) or the interpretation of Petrine Primacy in Matt 16:18 (4th Century, excluding Tertullian)?

Granted, and I agree, we must be careful. However, I wasn't so much addressing "traditions" than I was the truth of Scripture.

Blessings!

26  What then, brothers? When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Let all things be done for building up.
27  If any speak in a tongue, let there be only two or at most three, and each in turn, and let someone interpret.
28  But if there is no one to interpret, let each of them keep silent in church and speak to himself and to God.
29  Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others weigh what is said.

1Corinthians 14:

Here is God's direct instructions on how to conduct orderly worship as a Spirit-filled church of believers.

After I was born from above I realized I did not need sensual proof ... God's Word was sufficient in all areas of Spirit filled walk....

the Jewish Pharisees prided themselves as being the experts in the Scriptures and the Law, and yet they missed their Messiah when He appeared.   Also, what sort of a mechanic would a guy be if he said, "The instruction manual is sufficient in all areas of motor vehicle repair", but didn't use the tools provided to actually repair the vehicle?   The tools provided by the Holy Spirit in the form of the 9 gifts are for the strengthening and building up of the body of Christ.   But I guess if one is concerned only for his own personal walk and doesn't have any care about building up his fellow believers in the body of Christ, then the tools (gifts) of the Spirit would be of no use to him.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
