What Does "Come as you are" mean to you?

I am sure you have heard it said,of Jesus,

" Come as you are".

So what does that mean to you?

i believe that come as you are means not only come now, but also do not buy into the fact that you have to get your life in order before you come. there are people who are Christians that seem to imply that our salvation is by works and that we must have our behaviors correct before God can work in our lives. however 'come as you are' implies to me that right now, regardless of personal state and bad habits and wrong thinking, if we come and earnestly come He will meet us there. so come...and come as you really are. Christ is sufficient and the kinks will be worked out. notice when He healed people they did not first put their lives in order and then go out to meet Him...they were broken and believed that He was able to make them whole. He is!!!!!!!!!!

Ever invite someone to church and have then say something like,

" I know I need to start going to church. I will just as soon as I quit drinking."

How about the ," I 'm not so bad. Sure I've broken some of the commandments, but not all of them. I'm a good person. I haven't killed anyone. "

These people are trying to earn their way to heaven by being "good" which they cannot do.

The invitation the Lord gives us to come to Him is one that expresses, "Child, I love you. I see your life, but I love you just the same. Come and let me do for you what you cannot do for yourself. Come receive my free gift of salvation. Let Me change your life. I AM the New Wine. I AM offering you a transformed life because you cannot put new wine into old wine skins. You must be born again. Born of the Spirit. You cannot earn it, you cannot do anything but come to Me, just as you are. I paid for you with My life. Now come, let Me free you from all sin and shame and lead you in the right direction."

Come as you are has always also meant to me that we don't need to wait. As its been said, we don't have to 'fix' ourselves first. God's glory can shine through us through all the fixings....and we are not right when we think we can fix anything anyways!

We also do not know how much time we have here on earth. Waiting to fix ourselves could mean we come to our end, never choosing Christ.

i agree with this...come as you are means that we do not need to try to make ourselves holy before we can come before the Lord...He will take care of that!!!

Matthew 11:28-30 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

God knows WHO you are, bags and baggage. The world AND religion have fought to keep you from knowing the one true God and Jesus wants us to know that He is the deliverer, He is the peacemaker, He is our salvation. We can't rid ourselves of our sin in order to be reconciled to God, so just as you are, come to Him and He shall give you rest, He will cause His peace to reconcile us to God.

Dear Dad Ernie, you don't know me too well obvioulsy , the world has no influence on me, there was never a time I haven't known my creator:) Religion I abandoned long ago, because it is just that, man made. Yes he has been my only salvation and my refuge and he knew me before I was even conceived, he knew what family he would place me in and each moment of my life was predetermined for his will. But that is a great answer for someone searching!
