U.N. -- The un-coalition

Debra Saunders

Two weeks into the Iraq war, naysayers complained that the invasion was going too slow. War planning was flawed. There weren't enough troops. Where were the cheering Iraqis? Why wasn't there more "shock and awe" in "shock and awe?"

Then the regime imploded, Saddam Hussein's statues tumbled. As warfront successes mounted, the Carp-at-Bush Patrol needed to find some deficiency, real or perceived, to keep the news from being too good. Before victory was declared, the constant critics had started lamenting how the Bush administration is botching reconstruction.

The do-gooders' big fears are: 1) that the Defense Department, which has prosecuted the war in Iraq so successfully, will be too involved in Iraq's reconstruction, and 2) the United Nations won't have a big enough role.

Yes, I know, the United Nations does good deeds for sick children in Third World countries. But the United Nations doesn't exactly have a stellar track record when it comes to Iraq and post-conflict reconstruction.

The U.N. Security Council allowed Hussein essentially to chase weapons inspectors out of Iraq in 1998.

The United Nations oversaw the Oil for Food program that allowed Hussein to siphon off funds meant to feed his people. Despite more than 250 U.N. workers overseeing the program at various times, Hussein still managed to funnel Food for Oil money into his propaganda and palaces.

In Israel, posters of suicide bombers have popped up in U.N. Relief and Works Agency schools for Palestinian refugees.

Recently, a spokesperson for the U.N. Mission in Kosovo announced that four-hours-with and two-hours-without electricity will be the standard situation for an undetermined time -- this is after the United Nation has spent four years rebuilding Kosovo, well, in its own fashion.

I'll add that eating is what you might call a time-sensitive activity. I question whether a group that equates "final opportunity" with months and months of extensions should be entrusted with delivering food to people who are hungry right now. "Pronto" is not the United Nations' motto.

Why are people on the left pushing for the United Nations to get involved?

Mayhaps there's a conceit at play here: Methinks the U.N. lovers are more interested in the romantic notion of having people like them (intellectuals, not buzz cuts) delivering aid than they are in watching people who follow orders and carry rifles actually deliver huge quantities of food to the bodies in need of it. If my children were hungry, I'd rather rely on the U.S. military.

Yes, they're champing at the bit to get the United Nations in charge. But you have to wonder: Is their big fear the Iraqi people going without, or military types basking in any humanitarian glory?

What are your thoughts on the United Nations?

In my humble opinion, I feel the UN is necessary and needed.

There needs to be a governing body to keep super-powers like the US in check. Just because the US military can, it should not be allowed to invade and conquer any country it feels is an inconvenience.

Good ole George Bush has it all wrong. The UN should have the final say in global matters such as invading and conquering countries. The UN is not there for George Bush to push around and control. Unfortunately, he knows he is the leader of the most powerful country, and he can bully anyone and do whatever he wants...and nothing or anyone...including the UN can stop him.

We, as a global community need the UN to ensure peace and harmony. Instead of belittling the UN, we should be praying and supporting its members.

Well...if the UN actually did it's job in the first place . . . . :suspect:

Sorry, Peanuts, but the UN has proven itself unfaithful, untrustworthy, and inneffective in enforcing its proposals and written agendas (Yeah, note I said "written" agendas - I wonder about the "unwritten" ones. )

OK, there be my thoughts.

Amen, Nebula.

IMnot so humbleO, the UN is nothing but a panty waist waste. No backbone, can't take a stand if they had four legs to stand on, and is blatantly anti-American to boot.

We don't need the UN. And, if I ran my household the way the UN runs it's business, (ie: refusing to take a stand, making a rule and then not enforcing it), my home would be nothing but chaos and my kids would be unruly brats. Hmmmm......seems to me there are quite a few countries being unruly brats.........

The UN has its good points. Here, let me list some:

1)ummmm.....

2)errrrrr....

3)lets see......

4)how about....

5)well.........

Ok, let me think more on that.

The UN is the biggest waste of prime New York real estate. They have proven their incompetance many time over. Maybe, at one time, they had a place of worthiness, but not for awhile. Iv'e lost all faith in them since they put terrorist nations on the Security Council and Human Rights Commision. What are they thinking????

If anyone doesn't see the irony in their moves, well, only prayer can help.

Remamber in the '90's when Clinton was acting tough on Iraq? The UN and Democrats were all about air strikes and demanding that Saddam disclose his WMD program. Their own inspectors argued to stay in Iraq because they were convinced that Saddam was hiding weapons. Clinton was showering missles on radar sites (diverting attention from his personal troubles) and the White House press releases were filled with justifications for strikes against Iraq because they and the UN were convinced that WMD were in Iraq. Talk about changing ones tune. Where were the Dems and the UN when Bush went in to Iraq to do the job that they didn't have the intestinal fortitude to do themselves?

Please don't point to Scott Ritter here. 'Nuff said about him.

Reckon' I'm getting off the track here so I'll steer back to the original point.

The UN is the single most destructive and worthless gathering of human kind in history. But, there is another on the horizon, and if we don't pay attention to them, then the devil will have free reign on earth for many years. I'm talking, of course, about the EU.

Jesus, come quickly.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
