Too bad this fellow didn't have a Jewish Hebrew dictionary entry that shows the infallible scripture correctly mentioned the Earth is a sphere.  There is a lot of things mentioned in the Bible like the spherical shape of the world that those writers just could not have known from their vantage point without being told from someone who knows, like God.

Maybe you should send that to Dr. Michael Heiser.  I'm sure he would be interested.

I am not sure what you mean.  Are you suggesting that he believes the world is flat?

Just searching on the gentleman's name brings up suggestions of false doctrines, but I don't know the man or his work.

I guess you don't read my posts carefully.   Michael has a doctorate degree in Hebrew and several other degrees in languages and comparative religions. (He's a really smart dude.)   He has shown where and how the Bible seems to say that the earth is flat, and explains that it does so because that was the general cosmology at the time the Bible was pinned.  It uses words and phrases that people would understand to make a point.   But the points the Bible makes in those times is not a science book.   Describing things in visions.    But no he does not believe the earth is flat, just that a person can get that idea from the Bible if it's taken literally.

Most of the negative things I have read about him concerned who the old testament sons of God are.   If you believe they are humans in Israel and/or sons of Seth, instead of Angels and other places the heavenly council, then you would consider us as heretics.

Someone once said that we get into trouble when practicing apologetics and try to make the Bible something that it isn't.

You wrote me two sentences, friend.  What did I miss that I should have read more carefully?

The first rule of hermeneutics is to read the Bible literally.  Context will show when to read figurative passages, and there are symbolic things in prophecy, but literal is the way to go.

I have not investigated Dr. Michael Heiser's work, I just commented about the fact that false doctrines are immediately mentioned when you search on his name.

Was this addressed to anyone in particular?

If Earth weren't flat, wouldn't the oceans spill off the side? I mean, have you ever tried to pour water on a sphere?

Joking aside, how cool is it that we live on a magnetic ball in a universe where everything in existence has magnetic properties, to a stronger or lesser degree.
