EL SHADDAI

There is a clear self-disclosure of our FATHER to HIS children through HIS names in the Word. We know that HE is "ELOHIM", the strong, mighty GOD who creates, who spoke into being everything that exists. Then, we know that HE is "JEHOVAH", the eternal GOD, who wants to have a special relationship with us. Knowing something about WHO HE is, HIS desire to have a special relationship with us, and that HE is the supreme, living GOD, we can know HIM as "ADONAI", which means LORD, MASTER, or BOSS.

Now, I would like to post some thoughts on the name EL SHADDAI. The Hebrew word "Shaddai" means "almighty", therefore, this name is translated "Almighty GOD" or "GOD Almighty". It means the GOD WHO can do Anything (Matthew 19:26). "SHADDAI" has been given two meanings by scholars. Some scholars believe the word literally means "mountain". Some such as the Zondervan pictorial Encyclopedia of the Bible, interpret the name as suggesting "strength, stability, and permanence." Other writers, including Lehman Strauss and Nathan Stone, believe the name comes from the Hebrew word, "shad", which means "breast", which in the Bible usually refers to a mother's breast, which gives her baby strength and nourishment.

In the name, EL SHADDAI, we get to know a GOD WHO can compel nature to do what goes AGAINST the Laws of Nature and thereby bring about things that are supernatural. To see what we can learn about our GOD from this name we must make use of the "rule of first mention". The first time we find this name in the Word is Genesis 17:1. Stay with now....it has been 24 years since GOD promised Abraham HE would make his seed a great nation (Genesis 12:2) and 13 years since Sarah and Abraham gave up on HIM and Ishmael was born (verse 16:16). Now Abraham is 99 years old, and he and Sarah are well past the age of child-bearing, so having a child is supposedly impossible.

Our FATHER intentionally let them pass child-bearing age before fulfilling HIS promise for a very important reason.....HE wanted to reveal to them that HE was not only All-Powerful, but also the life-giving GOD WHO could give them a child. They had to learn (like us today) to quit trusting in themselves and learn to trust the GOD WHO can do ANYTHING! (Hebrews 11:11)

Through the name EL SHADDAI, our FATHER was revealing to Abraham that HIS covenant with him WAS NOT cancelled EVEN THOUGH at times Abraham had lapses of faith (and YOU thought it was just us like this nowadays), such as getting out of GOD's will and going into Egypt, where he lied about Sarah being his "sister". Keep in mind that it was AFTER that, that Abraham gave up on GOD and had a son by Sarah's servant, Hagar, resulting in the birth of Ishmael and problems which carry on even into today's 21 century!!

Listen, from time to time, ALL of US have lapses of faith. I know I do. But even then, we MUST remember that our GOD is "EL SHADDAI". This name reminds us that our All-Powerful FATHER can keep HIS promises even when we don't hold up our end (Psalm 37:23-24). This name for GOD makes it clear that to know the GOD WHO can work through us and give us supernatural strength to do HIS will, we MUST come to a point in life where we REALIZE our OWN weaknesses and insufficiencies. We MUST know GOD as GOD ALMIGHTY WHO can accomplish HIS will WITHOUT relying on our help in any form or fashion. HE does not need our might.

Our FATHER allows all of us to go through overwhelming experiences that look hopeless in order for us to experience HIS power and to come to know HIM as EL SHADDAI. When we rely on our own scheming, deceit, and perceived power to get what we want, we NEVER see our FATHER in light of this NAME. We have to reach a point in our life where you/I CANNOT rely on our own power. Look one more time at Genesis 17:1 and let me make one last point here.

The phrase "walk before ME" means that YOU and I live in the knowledge that we are NEVER out of our FATHER's sight. The word, "blameless" means without any outstanding fault. It DOESN'T mean we are perfect, or sinless, but that we do nothing that could be used to injure our reputation or witness. It means to live so that there is no opportunity for private or public reproach. With that said, let me just say to you as fellow Believers.....we will NEVER come to know GOD as "EL SHADDAI" until we come to the end of ourselves.

We must quit trusting in our own power and begin trusting in the power of our FATHER/LORD/SAVIOUR/KING. HE only shows HIS power when YOU and I are willing to admit our weaknesses and inabilities. For those of you reading this post who DON't know where you're going should death call upon you this day, the first step is being willing to admit YOU don't have the power to save yourself, and to TRUST in CHRIST to completely and ETERNALLY save YOU from the penalty of YOUR sins (Romans 10:9-10,13). I promise YOU that after doing so NOTHING can ever again separate YOU from GOD (Romans 8:38-39). This HE has promised YOU, and HE can NEVER lie. Then HE says YOU must "walk before ME and be blameless".

That's what is required IF you want to experience the power of GOD in your life. THAT's what knowing our FATHER as EL SHADDAI can do for you when YOU face any and every kind of problem/need in this life that seems impossible.

JEHOVAH RAPHA

From time to time ALL of us need a physician. We may become physically sick and need physical healing. Or, we may be distraught and depressed and need emotional healing. Our FATHER allows us to have these experiences where we need the Great PHYSICIAN to heal us so we can get to know HIM as "JEHOVAH Rapha".

There is a divine order in the names through which GOD reveals HIMSELF in the Word. After allowing HIM to cure our spiritual sickness, called sin, then we can get to know HIM as "the GOD WHO heals us physically and emotionally". You and I learn of this name through an experience of the nation of Israel (Exodus 15).

The first 17 verses of Exodus 15 record Israel song of praise to the LORD. The LORD has just performed what is probably the greatest miracle in the Old Testament by opening a path of escape through the Red Sea for the children of Israel and destroying Pharoah's armies, who were in hot pursuit of them. Because of this miracle, Moses and the children of Israel sang a song of praise as I mentioned earlier, but now were faced with the wilderness (desert) of Shur (verse 15:22). The desert was hot and dry, and they had not brought enough water. Moses cried out to the LORD and the LORD showed him a piece of wood.

Moses cast it into the bitter waters of Marah (verses 23-25), and the water became sweet. Then our LORD said to Moses and the Israelites that if they would listen carefully to HIS voice and do what is right in HIS sight, give ear to HIS commandments and keep HIS statutes, HE would put NONE of the diseases on them which he DID TO THE Egyptians. "For I AM the LORD who heals YOU" (verse 15:26). The phrase translates into the Hebrew name, JEHOVAH Rapha. The name JEHOVAH means "the SELF-existent, Ever-Present GOD". It is the name most often used when our FATHER is protecting or providing for HIS children.

There are several things revealed about GOD in this name, JEHOVAH Rapha. First and foremost is that we all will get physically sick at some time in our lives. Face the fact that we're NOT invincible. If JESUS tarries and we do not die of some accident, ALL OF US WILL ultimately die of some illness or physical problem. However, most of the diseases we will have in this life WILL NOT kill us. At those times we need to go to our FATHER GOD as JEHOVAH Rapha. In 2 Kings 20:1 we read that King Hezekiah was sick and near death. The Prophet Isaiah went to him and said, "Thus says the LORD: 'Set YOUR house in order, for YOU shall die, and not live'".

However, GOD had Isaiah go back and tell the King that GOD heard his prayers and saw his tears (verse 20:5). GOD added 15 years to the King's life AND not only healed him, but because of these prayers HE delivered the nation out of the hands of the Assyrians. The LORD still heals us physically and emotionally today. It has been my experience in life that I need GOD's emotional healing far more than the physical. Though I am very seldom physically sick, I often find myself discouraged or depressed, and then my faith wanes. Fact of life, yet it is then I am drawn to JEHOVAH Rapha.

If you read your Bible you can find another example of GOD's emotional healing in 1 Kings 19. The Prophet Elijah was a TREMENDOUS prophet of GOD. In chapter 18 he prayed one of the most POWERFUL prayers in the Bible, literally bringing fire down from Heaven at Mount Carmel (verses 18:36-39). Then the wicked Queen of Israel, Jezebel, who already hated Elijah, told him she would have him killed within 24 hours (verse 19:2). She was hot as a firecracker!!

When Elijah heard this, he ran for his life, fleeing into the desert. Out there he fell asleep, and an angel touched him and told him to get up and eat. The angel had prepared him bread baked over hot coals and a jar of water. Our FATHER knew that Elijah was emotionally down and therefore FIRST needed rest and nourishment. The angel came back a second time and had Elijah get up and eat (verses 19:7-8). Then Elijah traveled for 40 days and went into a cave at Mount Horeb, where our FATHER said to him, "What are YOU doing here, Elijah?" (verse 19:9)

Elijah told HIM he had been "very zealous" for HIM and that the Israelites had forsaken HIS covenant, torn down HIS altars, and killed HIS prophets. Then in verse 19:10, while in the depths of depression, Elijah EXAGGERATED the negative. Now....isn't that JUST LIKE YOU and ME?!! When we are depressed it seems as though the WHOLE WORLD has gone to crap. We think we are the ONLY ONES trying to live for GOD. Don't duck now, I'm firing "missiles of truth at you". Be man/woman enough to take an honest/sincere look at yourself. You and I are JUST LIKE ELIJAH in this instance! Elijah even had the nerve to say, "I am the ONLY ONE left". Our FATHER had to set him straight (verse 19:18).

Then as you read on you see where Elijah told our FATHER that Jezebel was trying to take his life. Personally....I don't think that was true either. I believe if Elijah had taken the time to think and pray, he would have realized that Jezebel DIDN'T DARE kill him. She did send the threat. But if you were going to kill someone in the next 24 hours, would you send a messenger to warn him? No, you'd send a "hit man". Here's what I think.....Jezebel was too clever to have Elijah killed. She knew he was the most powerful influence for JEHOVAH in Israel. If she had him killed he would have become a martyr and have been FOR MORE influential dead than alive. This probably would have caused a revolt in Israel.

So, her words were just a threat. She let him run away to the desert because she wanted him to look like a coward in front of the nation of Israel. As someone has said, "Fatigue makes cowards of us all," and Elijah was tired, which led to his depression and lack of faith. Remember....this is the same "Elijah", who appears centuries later on the Mount of Transfiguration, with Moses and JESUS!

After Elijah told the LORD his feelings, the LORD told him to go out and stand on a mountain. We read that the LORD passed by, in a great and strong wind that tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks in pieces. But the LORD was not in the wind. Then, after the wind an eartquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. After the fire the LORD came in a gentle whisper (verse 19:12). When I am emotionally sick, GOD rarely heals me with some big dramatic demonstration of HIS power. Honestly, it is usually through a gentle whisper.

Sometimes the "whisper" has been a spiritual impression that I cannot explain. Sometimes it has been through what a person said to me, though they NEVER knew GOD "whispered" to me through them. Sometimes the gentle whisper comes through reading HIS Holy Word. I NEVER cease to be amazed at the different ways my LORD whispers to me when I need to hear HIS encouraging words.

After HE healed Elijah of his depression, which was nothing more than SELF-PITY, HE recommisioned him and sent him back to anoint a new King over Israel. GOD always heals me of my depression by causing me to get my eyes off myself and start looking at the NEEDS OF OTHERS. THAT's what the Gospel of JESUS CHRIST is all about. Whatever healing HE has to do in our lives, we must remember that HIS promise for healing IS CONDITIONAL (verse 15:26).

ALL the promises in the Bible are conditional. One condition of all the promises is OUR OBEDIENCE to the written Word of our FATHER. We have NO RIGHT to pray for HIS healing in our lives UNLESS we are living by HIS Holy Word! And eventually in our journey through this world we will need healing. But we must also remember that HE doesn't always heal us physically. Take a gander at 2 Timothy 4:20. The point I get from that is GOD can ALWAYS heal, but HE may not. When it is NOT HIS Will to heal we need to always remember what the Apostle Paul said in 2 Corinthians 12:9.....NEVER FORGET that HIS Grace is sufficient for YOU and I. When HE doesn't give us healing, HE gives us GRACE instead. That is the strength to live with our problems.

When we are weary and burdened, JESUS invites us to come to HIM and HE will give physical rest such as we can experience NO OTHER PLACE. When we are emotionally drained and depressed HE promises rest for our souls, IF we come to HIM. The word translated "rest" (ANAPAUSIS) in this passage (Matthew 11:28-29) means "refreshment". It IS NOT a promise of rest FROM work, but IN work. It refers to physical AND emotional invigoration, NOT inactivity.

Occasionally all of us have to drink from the bitter waters of life. At those times we often need the mental and physical "rest" or REJUVENATION that only JESUS can give. So, the next time you are physically ill or emotionally drained, REMEMBER the LORD is JEHOVAH Rapha, which means HE can heal and strengthen YOU both Physically and Emotionally, if need be. Run to this name and find healing, realizing too that sometimes (not always) our LORD's healing requires time. When it does, NEVER forget what HE says to us in Lamentations 3:22-23......"It is because of the LORD's Mercy and Loving-Kindness that we are not consumed, because HIS tender COMPASSION fail not. They are new EVERY MORNING; Great and Abundant is YOUR stability AND FAITHFULNESS."

Angels if you can't find it in the old forum, go to the test forum and there in the test forum is 6 or 7 different imported databases. That's why there's duplicate forums, but I am sure you can find the post in there.

Take care and God bless,

Angels, the only one I found from Jacob (James?) was the Israel post under Apologetics. I couldn't find another that he started. Sorry sis.

However, if someone has the time to take this project on it would be great! I would LOVE it! :unsure:

THE TRUE PERSONAL NAME OF "THE MIGHTY one OF "ABRAHAM; ISAAC AND JACOB WAS CHANGED IN OUR VERSIONS OF THE BIBLES WE NOW HAVE, OVER 6800 TIMES; AND REPLACED WITH THE incorrect "TITLES" OF......"lord and god" (all religions......have a "god")

THE LETTER "J" WAS NEVER KNOWN OR USED BY THE HEBREWS IN THEIR LANGUAGE, NOR IS IT TODAY. IT IS A "MODERN" INVENTION, AND HAS ONLY BEEN IN USE for about 400 years YOU CAN FIND THIS INFORMATION IN ANY LIBRARY, OR ENCYCLOPEDIA.

EVEN IN THE ORIGINAL KING JAMES BIBLE, THE LETTER "J" WAS NEVER USED.

halleluYah means praise Yah(short form of Yahweh)

Yah Shua =salvation comes from Yahweh

halleluYah=praise Yahweh

YirmeYah (Jeremiah) =Yahweh throws

Yeshaiah( Isaiah) Yahweh is salvation

Obadyah= worshipper of Yahweh

Zephanyah = Yahweh hides

Zecharyah = Yahweh has remembered

Nehemyah = comfort of Yahweh

Right on Carljoe,

Also, There is a difference between titles and names. God's name is YHVH. Christianity has sought to separate the Messiah from His Jewishness. The name of Messiah is Yeshua. He never heard himself called "Jesus," in His lifetime on earth. Yeshua is not "Jewish way" to say Jesus. The two are not connected. Yeshua is a shortened form of Yehoshua or Joshua.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

      Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

      This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

      You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

      Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

      I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

      For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

      2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

      So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

      Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
      Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

      Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

      As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

      Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
      Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

      So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
