I've never been in one but I've heard people talk about "All Year Long Christmas" stores

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Yeah, there's a couple near where I live...one in the city, and one in the town of Banff...I love them; I think they're beautiful!

The secular parts of Christmas have been around for hundreds of years before the birth of Christ.  I think it was a major mistake to combine these things together when it was done.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Yeah...it started out as a noble idea; From what I remember, there's a pagan celebration that same day, so the idea was to distract from it...I'm sure it worked for a while...

Giving is good. Recieving is good. Merchandising is a waste of resources, money and creativity.  :taped:

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Well said! And I liked the part about "receiving is good." You don't often hear that. I mean, you don't want to just become spoiled and always be expecting things...but I believe it is right to accept a gift "in the spirit in which it was given." (from one of the Dune books, by Frank Herbert...can't remember which). One of my favourite quotes is "accepting a gift honors the giver." (The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, by Stephen R. Donaldson)

Merchandising...what can be said about it? "Stink. Stank. Stunk." comes to mind :24: (How the Grinch Stole Christmas)

I just feel myself that with Christmas being so commercial that I just cannot in good conscience celebrate it by buying anyone in my life gifts.

My kids have so many toys they don't even take care of anyway, it's a huge rip off.

I spent $700.00 one year on my kids gifts alone.

I'm through with that.

If Jesus got mad at people selling stuff in his Father's house I seriously doubt he'd be very proud that someone is celebrating commercialism supposedly in His honor.

(though I doubt that is His birthdate anyway)

But still, I refuse to conform to this world anymore.

I know alot of people get defensive over this but with people living on less than 80 cents a day, I just cannot go out and celebrate this holiday by buying people more junk that they don't need.

I will however get my little ones involved in giving to others and plan to use the holiday (and every day) to teach them that.

JUST MAKE SOMETHING!!!!!!!

It is about giving, not the amount.

That is what most people have forgotten.

People have long forgotten the "art of giving and receiving".

Give of yourself, your time, your talents, your joy, spread the Gospel, the Joy of the Lord.

Remember J O Y is JESUS Others You!!!

Well, I agree in part...except that not everyone who gives gifts on Christmas is "celebrating commercialism." I believe gift-giving is a wonderful way to show someone love, especially when the gift is thoughtful and personal...I believe that showing love in that way is a perfectly acceptable way to remember Christ's birth! When one loses sight of the real reason for giving the gifts (which is, granted, a lot of the time), THAT'S when it becomes an affront, if you ask me. Remember the reason you are giving gifts, doing it out of love for your friends and family, and especially out of love and rememberance for the greatest Gift God has given us. How can there be evil in doing that?

As far as the date of Christ's birth...no, it is almost certainly not Dec. 25th...I think I've heard that it is actually in the spring sometime. I wish I could remember for sure.

I'm curious as to the nativity scene. Does anyone know why it's portrayed this way? The wise men didn't see the baby Jesus in a manger. They saw Him inside a house. Matthew 2: 10, 11

My nativity scene has no wise men lol.

Correct - they were close to two years later.

They guys do look cool on some Christmas cards, though :emot-hug:

My parents always give "time" gifts.

They do something special with each one of us.

My dad took my husband to a baseball game. My mom took me to swim with the dolphins.

It makes it a special bonding time for us. Beats getting a dust collector.

We make our gifts.

I make quilts, scrap books, bird houses, etched glass, candles etc.

Me and my sisters work on the gifts together 2 saturdays a month starting in October.

We bond as sisters that way.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
