A friend of mine found these videos, in which several unbelievers are interviewed, giving their perspective on Christianity...I found them very interesting! It's quite the wake-up call, seeing how people see Christians. How often we blunder in our attempt to win souls! Too often we actually insult people, only pushing them farther away...even just using our religious jargon while talking to them! *sigh* sometimes, it's hard for me to watch, because I know I've been guilty of it (especially in my early years in the faith). Anyway. It's well worth the watch...

I saved the link to watch later but I know just you mean. Sometimes we as christians do more harm than good when witnessing. ( one of the reasons I don't support sidewalk preaching )

One example of bad witnessing can be found right here on these boards. There's a lot of hate'n going on here. I don't understand it.

This is a good topic. :21:

There's nothing wrong with "sidewalk" preaching if you meet them where they're at. You can say God is good all you want but if they don't believe in God, that phrase would be meaningless to them. Certain things make sense to us because we are believers. We can't use those certain things for witnessing because they are errelivant to a non believer.

Yes there is a lot of hate, disdain, pride, fear and so on on this board. :o

"Where no oxen are, the crib is clean, but much increase is by the strength of the ox."

The verse above teaches us that although it might look messy, that 'clumsy' street preacher will actually win people to the Lord. Don't belittle him.

I don't belittle him.

For every one he turns on to the Lord, how many does he turn off?

I have nothing against witnessing. I just don't think the street is the place for it.

Christians witnessing to people will always offend some people. It offends them because of the message we bear.

As to street preachers, I don't see much wrong with them- as long as they don't look outrageous; I think it just turns people off to see a wild man jumping around and yelling about fire and brimstone.

Witnessing SHOULD be done in the streets, however; for example, in NYC, I went on a missions trip. Our two ways of witnessing to people were, 1. Walking in the parks and asking people if they wanted to complete our "Questionnaire".. this allowed them to choose whether or not they wanted to be involved, and it opened up the Gospel Presentation in a way that most people were open to discuss it.

2. We also set up booths on the sidewalks, with tracts and Bibles and Gospel bracelets and information sheets with all the area churches on them.. The booths were labeled with a big red banner "PRAYER STATION", and we were all standing on the sidewalk, ready to talk to people about their physical and spiritual needs, and pray with/for them if they wanted to. if you want to find out more about the ministry, see NYC Ministries.

There is a time and a place for everything...

Throughout the Holy Scriptures I have read many times of the disciples testifying of our Lord Jesus on the streets, where whole cities and towns came to hear of the message of Jesus.

If we testify only in our churches, and town halls, if we testify only in our tent missions, how will the man who attends non of these hear?

Just my thoughts

Your Sister in Christ Jesus

At work, friends and family.

When you witness on the street you're not just witnessing to the one you're talking to. You're witnessing to every eyeball out there. How does the world see your witnessing? It makes a difference.

If you want to preach, get a permit and go to the park.

I'm sorry about your disposition. Salvation is for everybody. As I said earlier, witnessing isn't for everybody. Some people just don't have the social skills to witness in public. Fortunately some do. At least you are feeding your friends and family the bread of life. :)

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
