Is it just me, or does the idea of the new Jim Carey movie, scare you? "Bruce Almighty?"

I just am amazed sometimes at how far we as a society will go to show our rebellion towards God. I think if we have come to a point where our entertainment is at the expense of our reverence for the holiness of God the Father......then something is drastically wrong. I'm afraid the heart of our society and it's desire for entertainment is showing, and I am afraid of an Almighty God who will not be "mocked".

I like the fact that God is a black man, though.

Did those old movies titled "Oh God" with George Burns playing God bother you?

Well to tell you the truth, I wasn't following the Lord back then, so most likely they didn't bother me, although I can't remember them. I do know I saw at least one of them.

I think what really bothers me the most Godman, is the fact that in the trailers for it on tv, they show this guy using God's power to expose a woman's flesh....do you think this movie glorifies God? Or mocks His Power?

I'm afraid if we're not careful we just might see how powerful He Is.

Yeah, I think it's ridiculous. I don't know that it mocks God's power, though, since I know that God would not play such parlor tricks. I think that everyone wonders at some point what it would be like to have the power that God has-or at least a little bit of it.

It's hard for me to judge, though, since I have not seen the movie. But I wonder. Does Carey's character use his given power for useless reasons, such as making his girlfriend's breast large and causing trafic to part like the Red Sea for him, through the whole movie? Or will Carey's character come to realize that with awesome power comes awesome responsibility? Will he come to believe in God or have greater respect for God through this experience, or will he reject God? Will there be a Gospel message somewhere in the movie, or will they pass over this fact?

The trailers certainly seem to indicate that Carey's character uses his new found power for stupid reasons. But then this is most likely a tactic to get people in the theaters. Jim Carey's movies are mostly silly and often pretty stupid. His brand of comedy appeals to certain demographic of society - usually young people. It's base humor.

I actually like a couple of Carey's films. He's not extremely repulsive, and he doesn't have a trash mouth (at least not on film). And there is usually some kind of moral at the end (except the Ace ventura films). I guess what I'm saying is that I'd really have to see the movie to judge whether it goes over the line.

If this new movie is not classified as blasphemy, it most certainly will be on the border. It makes light of our Almighty God, and more than likely is not done in Jesus' name. That is, it is not made in a way that is glorifying God.

I WILL NOT see it!!! Oh yeah, the old George Burns films have never been seen by me either, for the exact same reason.

Well, all I know is, I certainly wouldn't want to take the Lord to see it. I would feel ashamed. As for the George Burns movies, I wouldn't watch them now either martyr. Anything that puts mankind in any light as equal to God, would bother me, especially if it's done just to "entertain" us. I don't think God would be pleased to be portrayed as "entertainment", he's certainly more Sovereign than that.

Bruce Nolan is a "human interest" news reporter in Buffalo, New York who is disconcerted with almost everything in life, despite his popularity, and the love of his girlfriend, Grace. At the end of the worst day of his life, Bruce angrily ridicules and rages against God--and God responds. He appears in human form and, endowing Bruce with all His divine powers, challenges Bruce to take on the big job and see if he can do it any better.

That's the summary of the movie. I wonder, what do kids take away from that? A reverence for God? Or the usual, that God is just a chum, that jokes around, and might even give you special powers, if you rage against Him? It's not the correct image of God in any form or fashion. I fear God when He is angered, His wrath is not to be toyed with.

In one of the "Oh God" movies the guy (main character) asks George Burns (God) something like "what about your son?" George says something like, "Oh him? I gave him for the sins of the world."

There was a definite gospel message delivered there; no one could deny it. Yet at thesame time old George was there smoking a huge stogie. So balance it any way that you want, I just don't see the need to get very legal about it. This generation mocks God on a daily basis and with astounding bravado. Should we really be so surprised?

Interesting you should ask.

I saw a review not too long ago, which for some reason is off-line right now, that I found interesting. I had been considering bringing it up - but I've been too bogged down with final projects for school.

The review comes from a Christian source, and they actually gave a positive review. :hmmm: What happens is that God gives Bruce His power in response to Bruce's complaint to God ("Why God?" or "Where are you, God?" kind of stuff). Bruce, though, uses his new-found power to his own ends, and in the process drives everyone away from him - including his girlfriend.

Near the end, or something like that, he asks God something like, "How can you make someone love you when you can't interfere with their free-will?"

God responds, "Welcome to My world!"

I also saw in a recent TV add a scene (maybe its the same one) where God asks Bruce, "So, you've had my power for a week. Who did you help?" (I believe the implication is that he didn't help anyone. :b2: :D )

Does the message of the film redeem the objectionable qualities? I don't know, but it has given me something to ponder.

Maybe if the review comes back up I can post a link to it so you can see and judge it for yourselves.

But isn't that called compromising the portrayal of the character of God? I guess that's what troubles me. We've come to think that if we can just find "something" redeeming about something that is on the verge of blasphemous towards God, then that somehow makes it ok? That's what has happened all along, that's why Oh God was a tad less objectionable than this movie, and that's why the next movie about God will make this one look like a Disney cartoon. It's called compromise and a slippery slope.

Give each generation a new slate for entertainment, without any boundaries, and see what you get?

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
