If Jesus (Yeshua) was a common name, how is it the name above all names?

Greetings and welcome to the forum, obedientFool.

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Philippians 2:5-11 (KJV)

Every knee shall bow at the name of JESUS, which means "God's Savior." Why? Because Jesus is the Lord of Lords and King of Kings!

Everything that Jesus accomplished, even going to the Cross, was for the Father's glory.  When every knee bows to Jesus on the first day of the Millennium, all of God's glory will be revealed.  This day is described in Revelation 19.

And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.  And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

Revelation 19:11-16 (KJV)

in Christ, Selah

It is not a case of the name being unique but of the honour given to that person.

Many people today, in catholic countries, are called Jesus and as you say it was a common name in biblical times.

Yet when Jesus is said, who do people think of?

These people:- https://playback.fm/people/first-name/jesús

or Jesus called the Christ, the Son of the living God.

That’s interesting, I looked it up, Yeshua was a common name in the first century- Galilee...I never knew that,👍

His name is above all other names, because he is the Son of God..he gave his life for his children....those who will be birthed into Christ.we must be born again to see the Kingdom of God.

A warm welcome to the forum, obedientFool...💗🙏

I've read that in some old Matthew manuscripts. Barabbas is mentioned as Jesus Barabbas.

So if he was called such adds a interesting twist.

bar abbas basically means son of the father.

At the trail the two

Jesus son of the father

Jesus son of God.

Barabbas was a well known murder.

Not only did Jesus change everything by His Death & Resurrection( finished work of the cross) but also His Name which is Abov every name( Hebrews 1:4 )

He is identified as Jesus the Christ.....Jesus Humbled Himself and even took a " common" name, which Gabriel told Mary to name the child before her immaculate Conception took place...

The Name in itself was Prophetic and Jesus Does Fulfill ALL the Law & the Prophets! Jesus,Christ Jesus, Messiah, Lord---- there is but ONE and no other Name under Heaven❤🤔

With love in Christ, Kwik

The typical answer seems to be, "his name was common, but it's still the name above all names".
Which is only restating the issue.

My name is Ray . . . there are plenty of 'rays' in the world . . . yet . . . only the specific 'Ray' of SE MI, who is the husband of Brenda, and father of Samantha, Jacob, Rebekah, Matthew, and Joshua is the 'Ray' that my kids are talking about when they identify the 'Ray' they are talking about.

Sure there are many Jesus' in the world, however, when we call upon that name we are not calling upon the Jesus that lives in Mexico, we are calling upon Jesus of Nazareth, who fulfilled all biblical prophecies concerning the Messiah, who died on the cross for our sins, and resurrected on the third day, and now is seated at the right hand of God and interceding for us.

Yes, it is that name of Jesus is above all names . . .

Hope this helps . . .

Ray . . .  .

Yeah it was a common name. I heard one say the power is in the one the name belongs to. And Peter and John saying that name..faith in that name.

Others have already posted Scriptures which explains perfectly Why the title “Jesus Christ” was exalted above all other names.

In summary, God exalted exalted Jesus to the highest place of honor, because of his redemptive work on the cross and resurrection. The meaning of His name took on a whole new meaning forever, after the resurrection. “Lord Jesus” is no mere name, but reflects the place He has in our lives and over all creation, as a whole. It was God who gave him the name Jesus and title as Lord, of that which affirms His divinity and supreme authority over all.

Jesus is a common name given in some countries, however, no person on earth can claim the title “Jesus Christ” or “Lord Jesus”. That name is reserved for God's son, who died for us on the cross.

Matthew 1:21
She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

Because he is the son of the Creator, Yahuah, there is deliverance in His name, and salvation in His name.  Other names may be similar, or common, but they can not heal, deliver, or save.
