We as Christian should be concerned about who attends a Christian fellowship, and more importantly who takes on the roles of elders, leaders, advisors, etc., in a Christian Fellowship

Let's start off with the following given premise:
-Nation of Ancient Israel ---could be viewed as-----a modern day church congregation

Quote

2 Samuel 13:1-14
New American Standard Bible 1995

Amnon and Tamar

13 Now it was after this that Absalom the son of David had a beautiful
sister whose name was Tamar, and Amnon the son of David loved her. 2
Amnon was so frustrated because of his sister Tamar that he made
himself ill, for she was a virgin, and it seemed [a]hard to Amnon to
do anything to her. 3 But Amnon had a friend whose name was Jonadab,
the son of Shimeah, David’s brother; and Jonadab was a very shrewd
man. 4 He said to him, “O son of the king, why are you so depressed
morning after morning? Will you not tell me?” Then Amnon said to him,
“I am in love with Tamar, the sister of my brother Absalom.” 5 Jonadab
then said to him, “Lie down on your bed and pretend to be ill; when
your father comes to see you, say to him, ‘Please let my sister Tamar
come and give me some food to eat, and let her prepare the food in my
sight, that I may see it and eat from her hand.’” 6 So Amnon lay down
and pretended to be ill; when the king came to see him, Amnon said to
the king, “Please let my sister Tamar come and make me a couple of
cakes in my sight, that I may eat from her hand.”.......more
scripture.....more scripture...............11 When she brought them to
him to eat, he took hold of her and said to her, “Come, lie with me,
my sister.” 12 But she answered him, “No, my brother, do not violate
me, for such a thing is not done in Israel; do not do this disgraceful
thing! 13 As for me, where could I [e]get rid of my reproach? And as
for you, you will be like one of the [f]fools in Israel. Now
therefore, please speak to the king, for he will not withhold me from
you.” 14 However, he would not listen to [g]her; since he was stronger
than she, he violated her and lay with her.

In the 2 Samuel 13:2-5 bible passage, we as Christian could view Amnon & Jonadab engaging in fellowship with each other as members of the Ancient Israelite Hebrew congregation.  To put it in a modern perspective, it's like 2 Christians engaging in fellowship with each other
regardless of whether they are in a cell group, bible study group or if they just are having 1-to-1 fellowship together at a cafe.

However, Jonadab's advice to Amnon that involves giving into Amnon's fleshly desires for his Tamar is scary.

More importantly, it should be a severe warning to us Christians about being concerned & cautious about who attends a Chrisitan Fellowship, and maybe even more importantly who is taking on the roles of elders or leaders in our Christian fellowship.

Christian leadership ( especially Church leadership) need to be firmly guided by The Holy Spirit when they appoint church elders, leaders, advisors etc.

No, the state of Judah can be identified  as the church and Israel as the backs.iding once Christian World.

What can we learn from this story?

Choose your advisors  very carefully and check there advice  against what the bible says.

Ammon know that rape was wrong, yet he let his last guide his actions and didn't  seek a y advice  that might have helped.

Further, the authority,  King David did nothing.

He did follow the law about rape.

We need to choose  leaders just as carefully  as we choose  advisors.

This is a good question to ask of pot5 leaders/advisors

How would you deal with a situation in the church h, like Amon/Tamar?

Theres an actual theory that Jonodab may have been in league with Absalom  and encouraged /advised Amnon how to rape Tamar to give Absalom a reason to kill Amnon. Amnon was the first born and next in line for the thrown. Nothing is known of   Kileab , so some think he may have died, therefore. Absalom would have been second in  line.

The reasons for this are that-

1) Jonodabs advice is so bizarre . Noone in their right mind woudlve given it.

2) When Tamar goes to Absalom, he asks her if  Amnon raped her (how would he know?)

3) When Absalom has Amnon killed, David thoiught all his sons were dead. Jonodab immediately tells him it wasnt the kings sons, just Amnon  and that it was because of Tamar's rape.(howd he know)

It is just an interesting perspective but it does sho that we need to mind our friends advice, they may have ulterior motives.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
