THE SON OF MAN.

The title, Son of Man, has a wealth of value and honour because of the responsibility involved. It involves both the nation of Israel and humanity.

`the Son of Man did not come  to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.` (Matt. 20: 28)

Loss of Man`s Inheritance.

Dominion of the Earth.

When God made man He gave him dominion over the earth and everything in it.

`Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living things that moves on the earth.` (Gen. 1: 28)

Dominion Forfeited.

Adam and Eve disobeyed God thus giving heed to Satan`s lies and coming under his sway. They forfeited their inheritance and relationship with God.

`…the whole world lies under the sway of the evil one.` (1 John 5: 19)

Divine Law of Restoration.

However, the divine law that was given later said that land and life could be recovered. The benefactor however, must provide legal evidence to prove his close relationship to those in adversity. Then he could redeem land and life.

`The land shall not be sold permanently, for the land is mine; for you are strangers and sojourners with me. And in all the land of your possession you shall grant redemption of the land.

If one of your brethren becomes poor, and has sold some of his possession and if his kinsman-redeemer comes to redeem it, then he may redeem what his brother has sold.` (Lev. 25: 23 - 25)

Thus, in order to fulfill this important function as kinsman-redeemer on behalf of Israel and humanity, the Saviour of the world was manifested as the Son of Man.

Kinsman-Redeemer.

Illustration of Ruth and Boaz.

God`s word gives us a wonderful illustration of the function of the kinsman-redeemer in the life of Ruth and Boaz.

There was a famine in the land of Israel and a certain man of Bethlehem, called Elimelech and his wife, Naomi went to live in the country of Moab. Elimelech, however died and left two sons. They took wives of the women of Moab, Ruth and Orpah. Then the two brothers also died leaving  Naomi and her two daughters-in-law.

After many years Naomi decided to return to the land of Judah. She told her daughter-in-laws to go back to their families. Orpah did go to her family, however Ruth chose to go with Naomi to Judah. When they returned to Bethlehem they were very poor. Ruth had to glean barley grain after the men reaped the field, so they could make it into bread.

Naomi decided to sell the estate of her deceased husband and pay off any debts owing. Now only a near kinsman could step forward to buy the land. However, with the land came the man`s son`s wife, (Ruth) a Moabite, with the requirement to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance.

When Boaz, a kinsman of Naomi`s husband looked at the facts he determined to undertake the duties of a kinsman on behalf of Ruth. However there was a closer kinsman that needed to be addressed.

These are the four requirements that Boaz needed to do to acquire the land and Ruth.

1.  Proof of Relationship.

Boaz was a mighty man of wealth, of the family of Elimelech. He was a kinsman. (Ruth 2: 1)

2. Uphold God`s Law.

Boaz took ten men of the elders of the city to oversee the transaction. (Ruth 4: 2)

3.  Clear the debt.

Boaz asked the closer kinsman if he desired to redeem the parcel of land of his brother Elimelech. He also said that the transaction included the marriage to Ruth. The closer kinsman declined to redeem the land and Ruth thus not becoming the kinsman-redeemer. Boaz however, chose to redeem the land and to take Ruth as his wife. (Ruth 4: 4 - 12)

4.  Consummate the marriage union.

Boaz took Ruth for His wife and she bore a son to him, Obed, and he begat Jesse the father of David.  (Ruth 4: 13 - 22) From this line Jesus was born. (Matt. 1: 1 - 16)

Christ as the Kinsman-Redeemer for Israel.

In relation to the Lord being the kinsman-redeemer for Israel and the world, He needed to fulfill each requirement. The four gospels represent Christ fulfilling these great functions in regards to Israel and the four visions in Revelation reveal Him fulfilling them for humanity.

1.  Proof of Relationship.

God`s Law required that the person desiring to be kinsman-redeemer, must first prove His right on the ground of relationship with Israel, for no stranger was permitted to act.

`In all the land of your possession you shall grant redemption of the land. If one of your brethren becomes poor, and has sold some of his possessions, and if his kinsman-redeemer comes to redeem it, then he may redeem what his brother has sold.` (Lev. 25: 24 & 25)

Christ`s genealogy is therefore recorded - as son of Abraham and son of David. (The two great covenants - promise and kingship). (Matt. 1 - 17)

2.   Uphold God`s Law.

Next the Lord had to vindicate the law. This He did by fulfilling all legal demands. In Mark we see that Christ maintained the rights of God`s law. In doing so He came up against the usurper who dominated the heritage. Christ took authority over demonic possession, sickness, social inequality, and false teachings. (Mark 3: 1 - 5)

3.  Clear the Debt.

To clear the debt in order to redeem Israel and ransom the estate, Christ did fully and finally by being the Lamb of God. Zacharias prophesied of this -

`And you child, (John), will be called the prophet of the Highest; for you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways, to give knowledge of salvation to His people by the remission of their sins.` (Luke 1: 76 & 77)

4.   To Consummate the Marriage Union.

The last transaction awaits achievement. Christ must come and take His bride, consummating an eternal union. This means that Christ needs to connect again with Israel and for them to come under His rulership.

In John`s gospel we read, `He who has the bride is the bridegroom,` (John 3: 29). So Christ is expected to return and consummate the union.

`Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.` (Rev. 19: 7)

For mankind to be partakers of the Son of God, the son of man had to be glorified.

John 12:23 But Jesus answered them, saying, The hour has come that the son of man should be glorified.

By the obedience of the faithful and true Son of God, the spirit of the son of man has been perfected.

Hebrews 5:

8 Though He was a son, He learned obedience by the things which He suffered.

9 And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him.

The Son of God is glorified in His resurrection,

and ascension to the right hand of the throne of God.

The son of man was glorified at the cross.

John 13:31 So, when he had gone out, Jesus said, Now the son of man is glorified,

and God is glorified in him.

We can now live our lives in Christ to the glory of the Father.

I enjoyed your three postings. I would like to add.

The title, "Son of man", in addition to what the OP was about, is vital to God's honor-

  1. God made the new governor of the earth Man-KIND (Gen.1:26-28). Since our Lord Jesus is both Maker and Inheritor, He must be 100% man - or God was impotent (perish the thought)
  2. God is 100% just and righteous. Only a MAN could be a substitute of MEN
  3. God said that the seed of the woman would crush the serpent's head. The Vanquisher must be a MAN

16 For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham (Heb 2:16)

Hi Ad Hoc,

Thank you for your encouragement and comments. It is good to meditate on the Lord`s titles. I have some more to post on this topic. Hope you like them too.

Christ as the Kinsman-Redeemer for Mankind.

In relation to the Lord being the kinsman-redeemer for mankind, He needed to fulfill each of the four requirements. The four visions in Revelation reveal Him fulfilling them for humanity.

1.  Proof of Relationship.

Christ came into manifestation as Son of man and in this capacity He is related to all men. Man had forfeited his right and title to the world as his estate, and only a man could redeem them.

In Vision 1 of Revelation we see the Lord as the Son of Man, identifying Himself with mankind.

`Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the first-born from the dead, and ruler over the kings of the earth.` (Rev. 1: 5)

2.  Upholds God`s Law.

In Vision 2 of Revelation we see that the Lord is proclaimed the Worthy one to bring the judgments upon the rebellious. Christ upheld all of God`s Laws and so is the righteous judge.

`Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is able to open the (judgment) scroll and to loose its seals?”  (Rev. 5: 2)

Every creature declares that the Lamb is `Worthy.` (Rev. 5: 11 - 13)

3. Clear the Debt.

In Vision 3 of Revelation we see that the accuser is cast down and those in the tribulation overcome him by the blood of the Lamb.

`Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now, salvation and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of the brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb…` (Rev. 12: 10 & 11)

4. To consummate the Marriage Union.

The last transaction awaits fulfillment. The Lamb`s wife, the New Jerusalem comes down to near the earth and involves the nations in its purpose.

`Come, I will show you the bride, the Lamb`s wife….and he showed me the great city, the holy Jerusalem descending out of heaven from God having the glory of God.` (Rev. 21: 9 - 11)

The nations of the earth walk in its light and bring their glory into it. God and the Lamb have their throne, authority there. (Rev. 21: 24,    22: 1)

Thus God`s great purpose through Christ of the spiritual (third heaven) and the physical (earth) are now united through this great city.

Christ as the Kinsman-Redeemer for the Body of Christ.

In relation to the Lord being the kinsman-redeemer for his Body, He needed to fulfill each of the four requirements. The first vision in Revelation reveal Him fulfilling this.

1.Proof of Relationship.

When Christ ascended to the Father he was made Head of the Body. This was a new group that was different than Israel or the nations.

In Vision 1 of Revelation we see the Lord as the Son of Man, identifying Himself with His Body.

`…in the midst of the seven lampstands (Body) one like the Son of Man,..` (Rev. 1: 13)

2.Upholds God`s Law.

The Lord is revealed with a long garment, a robe symbolizing His purity as the High priest and the one who upheld God`s law while on earth. The long garment is as the priests wore, symbolic of holiness, yet Christ`s very character is holy and without spot. And the golden girdle was worn by the High Priest to indicate his high office and authority, but Christ, the eternal High Priest, ever lives to intercede, giving eternal blessings.

`…the Son of Man clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band.` (Rev. 1: 13)

3.Clear the Debt.

Christ`s sacrifice of dying on the cross forever paid the price for the believer`s sin.

`To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood…` (Rev. 1: 5)

4.To consummate the Marriage Union.

The last transaction awaits fulfillment and includes those (us) who are part of the bridegroom purpose. The Body of Christ will be kingpriests under the Lord who is the King (High) priest.

`…and has made us kings and priests to His God and father,…` (Rev. 1: 6)

Those in the city, the New Jerusalem, will receive their inheritance after the Body of Christ has gone to their inheritance in the third heaven.

`God having provided something better, (great dominion) for us, (Body of Christ), that they, (Old Testament saints), should not be made perfect, (mature) apart from us.`  (Heb. 11: 40)

Thus, the consummation of the Bridegroom (& Body of Christ) and the Bride, (New Jerusalem) means the connecting of each realm in God`s great kingdom, to come under the rulership of Christ.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
