Not to poke the nest here too much, but why do you suppose there are often differing opinions of believers who both studied and prayed?:whistling:

I don’t know, Starise.

From my own experience, at my second birth/ spiritual birth, when I became born again by God,I was indwelled by the Holy Spirit, in other words He has taken up residence in my spirit, there he has been for the past 30 years, never ever to leave, he leads and guides us through His Spirit...over time we grow, as the Holy Spirit is sanctifying us to become more like Jesus, which is pretty incredible, you can see your flesh dying and the Spirit filling you more and more of himself....that’s my take on it,Starise...interesting subject.

Thats what I understand ,filling of the Holy Spirit to mean.

i know you asked David the question, Starise, hope you don’t mind me chiming in.🙏💗

@Rosie1jack2pauline3 This is my understanding of what happens with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit..........

Romans 8.9: "Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his."

@Rosie1jack2pauline3 The new birth is a mystery; although we do have things revealed about it..............

No worries. PLEASE comment on anything. That's what forums are for.

This is how I've always seen it too. I appreciate your reponse.

Being 'saved' means we are indwelled permenantly.

What I was trying to get at is the additional filling some speak of. It is hard to quantify because a person can make any claim, but since only they claim to have experienced it, take us claiming salvation for example. We know we are saved or that God lives in us, but how to explain this to another?

Same idea with this 'filling' that some circles say is a second event, while others say we were filled immediately at salvation. There is a contrast between claims and the claimed experiences of a few. This all has the effect of making a divide between those who say there is something else and those who say we all have the filling.

I never came from a background that taught a second filling, and it was never really a question until I heard someone say they were saved on such and such a date and then filled with the Spirit on another date. This all seemed contradictory to what I had been taught.

That's ok. I should probably keep my thoughts to myself sometime, maybe often.

Do you believe that when we are in the will of God, we are filled with the Spirit?...even though we are always indwelled by Jesus, do you think we can go our own way and lose that closeness, hope that makes sense....

Maying I’m trying to make sense of the past years..🙏

I think we can get into these merry-go-round thoughts. I'll try to explain a little later.

God seems to fill certain individuals with certain measures of His power for specific things. For instance Sampson had great strength and killed hundreds of men when the Spirit of the Lord came upon him. We don't read of any other man having this ability in the bible, unless we want to infer David had this power since he killed Goliath with a slingshot and was able to kill hundreds of enemy soldiers single handedly. This is especially poiniant given that he wasn't a huge person.

We read that John the Baptist was filled with the Spirit in the womb. The translations might better interpret this as 'empowered through the Spirit'. IOW we already had the Spirit, but the Spirit chose to work in a certain way in a special application. At Pentacost this was another special application of the Spirit for a specific purpose.

This would all seem to indicate levels or variations in the way the Spirit works.

Thoughts on merry-go-round thinking-

When a person thinks they are filled with the Spirit but someone else indicates there is another stage causing us to go back and wonder what we are missing. Are they correct and if so, what is their proof for it?

Thanks @Rosie1jack2pauline3

I will often take subjects that are sometimes questionable in trying to get closer to the truth.

Filled with the Spirit. This is often taken in different ways. Do you mind sharing when and how you remember being filled with the Spirit?

Most of my protestant brethren will say they were filled with the Spirit at salvation.

We are to be being filled with the Holy Spirit.  It is not a one-off experience, but should be a daily reality.  It is sometimes confused with baptism in the Holy Spirit, which is a one-off and happens at salvation.  Baptism in the Holy Spirit is how we are put into the body of Christ.

Eph. 5:18-20 (Amp)

18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but ever be filled and stimulated with the [Holy] Spirit.

19 Speak out to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, offering praise with voices [[a]and instruments] and making melody with all your heart to the Lord,

20 At all times and for everything giving thanks in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father.

[a] Ephesians 5:19 George R. Berry, Greek-English New Testament Lexicon.

1 Cor. 12:13 (ESV) For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
