If someone . . . preaches a [false] Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, . . . you [wrongly] put up with it. 2 Corinthians 11:4

The buzz in the room faded to a comfortable silence as the book club leader summarized the novel the group would discuss. My friend Joan listened closely but didn’t recognize the plot. Finally, she realized she had read a nonfiction book with a similar title to the work of fiction the others had read. Although she enjoyed reading the “wrong” book, she couldn’t join her friends as they discussed the “right” book.

The apostle Paul didn’t want the Corinthian believers in Jesus to believe in a “wrong” Jesus. He pointed out that false teachers had infiltrated the church and presented a different “Jesus” to them, and they had swallowed the lies (2 Corinthians 11:3–4).

Paul denounced the heresy of these phony teachers. In his first letter to the church, however, he’d reviewed the truth about the Jesus of Scripture. This Jesus was the Messiah who “died for our sins . . . was raised on the third day . . . and then [appeared] to the Twelve,” and finally to Paul himself (1 Corinthians 15:3–8). This Jesus had come to earth through a virgin named Mary and was named Immanuel (God with us) to affirm His divine nature (Matthew 1:20–23).

Does this sound like the Jesus you know? Understanding and accepting the truth written in the Bible about Him assures us that we’re on the spiritual path that leads to heaven.
How do you know that you believe the truth about Jesus? What might you need to investigate to make sure you understand what the Bible says about Him?

INSIGHT

The apostle Paul was careful to protect those he’d been privileged to influence for Jesus, which explains the tone and language we find in 2 Corinthians 10–13.

We see this same fierce posture of protection in Galatians 1:1–9 as well. Paul was “jealous” (2 Corinthians 11:2) for the believers’ stability and well-being in their faith in Jesus, and where their belief and conduct were jeopardized, he pulled no punches. The apostle countered the unhealthy persuasion of those he sarcastically referred to as “super-apostles” (v. 5; 12:11).

His words are cautionary (11:5–11), a warning for those who are more impressed with style and method than substance. A key word in verses 13–15 (used three times) is metaschēmatizō, which is translated “masquerade/masquerading.” It’s a compound word meaning “to transfigure, to transform.” It describes people who are not who they appear to be.

Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me.

2 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.

5 For I suppose I was not a whit behind the very chiefest apostles.

6 But though I be rude in speech, yet not in knowledge; but we have been throughly made manifest among you in all things.

7 Have I committed an offence in abasing myself that ye might be exalted, because I have preached to you the gospel of God freely?

8 I robbed other churches, taking wages of them, to do you service.

9 And when I was present with you, and wanted, I was chargeable to no man: for that which was lacking to me the brethren which came from Macedonia supplied: and in all things I have kept myself from being burdensome unto you, and so will I keep myself.

10 As the truth of Christ is in me, no man shall stop me of this boasting in the regions of Achaia.

11 Wherefore? because I love you not? God knoweth.

12 But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion; that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we.

13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.

14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

Oh that is very simple to respond to as the Jesus I know is Yeshua, whom God the Holy Spirit revealed to me individually, and turned me about from rejecting God altogether.

Why was this done to me? It was done by God in answer to the rightfully asked prayers from years and years ago made by my grandparents that I would be turned about to seeing Yeshua  as the Son Of God the Father through the agency of the Holy Spirit, who now indwells me sealing me for eternity to come with God the Father God the son and God the Holy Spirit. Yes God the triune Godhead. And all by and for the glory of God alone.

I am given to Yeshua the son of God the Father. Yeshua loses not a one given him including me as the Holy Spirit seals me safely from all attempts of Satan and his minions to turn me away.

I face oppression like most all that are called to their salvation are, but again  we are sealed by God The Holy Spirit safe for all eternity to come. Praise God!

No problem with that...they are not looking for another Messiah or another Christ to come...they have settle that Jesus is the Slain Lamb of God who died for the forgiveness of their sins...

No all Heresy is fatal...if not no ones will be saved because we keep correcting our selves...

Paul said something that I met some believers who were being baptized as proxy for their dead in the name of Jesus Christ...

Paul just mentioned it...if that what they did and they had their reasoning behind this....they were still believers and Saved...not from their all misunderstanding but they were saved from their sins.. 

If not they were never baptized them selves as proxy for the forgiveness of the sins of their ancestors...

If that was correct or not is another issue.  But Paul brought up the concern from other believers, which is how about those who died without having the chance to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ...

Not to hear if there is God or not...but that Jesus Christ was the Son of God who died for the forgiveness of their sins.   That they need someone to explain it and teach them for some time....this they cannot figure it out by saying someone must have created what we see.. 

No it cannot be figure out by looking in what God has created.

So, the real Jesus wants us to be with Him, not distant and impersonal.

With Jesus we have rest in our souls.
