Hello everyone,

I have to do a persuasive speech for English and the Lord laid it on my heart to do it on abortion. He has been showing me a lot that I had never really seen before. I was wondering if anyone had any advice.

I am, as I guess many people are, nervous about giving speeches. Not to mention, almost everyone in my class is pro-abortion... and this will be hard to give... I was also wondering if anyone knew of any good information for this.. I have been looking all over the internet.

Other than that, thankyou :lightbulb2:

Check out the Michigan Right To Life. There are other Right To Life places, but when I searched the net for information on abortion I found they had some of the best information. Also, look up the Roe vs Wade court case. It is very enlightening to read how the judges reached their conclusion concerning abortion.

Through all your research you will learn that not only has abortion techniques evolved from bad to worse, but that the arguments for abortion do not hold water, yet they continue. Abortion is one of the most horrendous, murderous acts ever imposed on mankind.

I would say that you should focus as much as possible on scientific evidence (for instance, on the dangers to the mother). While it might be nice to just be able to give a vehement speech about how God says it's wrong, unbelieving people just don't think like that. Of course, it all depends on what your teacher is looking for.

As far as giving the speech goes;

Give yourself lots of time and lots of notes to begin with. Rehearse it in front of the mirror. Once you're confident there, try taking out some of the things in your notes. This will force you to depend less on what is on the page, which will allow you to look up at your audience more. As you get more confident, you can narrow down your notes even further. For me, I usually have about half the notes I started out with (if that) by the time I'm ready for a speech, but it really depends on what you start out with, and on your own preferences.

Rehearse in front of a friend. One who is not afraid to give you constructive criticism is best.

If it's the large crowd that makes you nervous, my best advice is to not look them in the eyes. Look just over their heads, or at their hairline; this will give them the impression that you're looking them in the eyes, without forcing you to think about them too much. (unless you're the kind of person that feels encouraged by looking someone in the eyes during your speech...I'm really not at all, so this is one of those tricks I use EVERY time I speak in front of a large group of people).

Well, if you want to do the "Shock 'em" into attention approach -

How is this for an opener?

January 22, 2023

Dear Mom:

Can you believe it is already the year 2023? I'm still writing '22 on everything! It seems like only yesterday that I was sitting in the first grade and celebrating the change to a new century.

I know we really haven't chatted since Christmas, Mom, and I'm sorry. Anyway, I have some difficult news to share with you, and I really didn't want to call and talk face to face.

But before I get to that, let me report that Ted's had a big promotion, and I should be up for a hefty raise this year if I keep putting in all those crazy hours-you know how I work at it. Yes, we're still struggling to pay the bills.

Little Timmy's been okay at Kindergarten, although he complains about going. But then, he wasn't happy about the day care center either. So what can we do? He's been a real problem, Mom. He's a good kid, but quite honestly, he's an unfair burden on us at this time in our lives.

Ted and I have talked this through, and we have finally made a choice. Plenty of other families have made the same choice and are really better off today.

Our pastor is supportive of our choice. He pointed out the family is a system, and the demands of one member shouldn't be allowed to ruin the whole. The pastor told us to be prayerful and to consider all the factors as to what is right to make our family work. He says that even though he probably wouldn't do it himself, the choice really is ours. He was kind enough to refer us to a children's clinic near here, so at least that part is easy.

Don't get me wrong, Mom-I'm not an uncaring mother. I do feel sorry for the little guy. I think he heard Ted and me talking about it the other night. I turned and saw him standing at the bottom of the stairs in his PJ's with his little teddy bear that you gave him under his arm-and his eyes were sort of welled up with tears.

Mom, the way he looked at me just about broke my heart, but I honestly believe this is better for Timmy too. It's not fair to force him to live in a family that can't give him the time and attention he deserves.

And please, Mom, don't give me the kind of grief that grandma gave you over your abortions. It's the same thing, you know. There's really no difference.

We've told Timmy he's just going in for a vaccination. Anyway, they say the termination procedure is painless. I guess it's just as well that you haven't seen that much of little Timmy lately. Please give my love to Dad.

Your daughter,

And here's another one:

YOU DECIDE R.C. Agnew, U.S.C. Medical School

The father has syphilis and the mother has tuberculosis. They have had four children. The 1st one was blind, the second one died. The third one was deaf and dumb, and fourth one had tuberculosis.

The mother is now pregnant with her 5th child but is willing to have an abortion if you determine that she should. What would you decide for her?

If you chose abortion, congratulations! You

look at some of the statistics considering abortion- such as what percentage (the majority, actually) of abortions are coerced, or forced, either by abuse or threats from family of boyfriend.

also look into the link between breast cancer, and women who abort their firstborns. They say this is because a woman's breasts do not fully develop until pregnancy- and an abortion unnaturally halts this development process.

look at the emotional and physical scars of women who aborted. Also look at the percentage of women who sincerely regret their decision. Contrast this to the number of women who regret delivering their baby, and either keeping it or having it adopted. Look at the fetal pain thing- expose it for what it is- an unfounded piece of propoganda that comes from the NARAL and planned parenthood.

Bring into this, the facts about abortifacient forms of birth control, and the current controversy over whether it is right for pharmacists to be allowed to refuse to fill birth control prescriptions.

Touch on the rarity of pregnancy resulting from rape or incest, and also show how this is not a valid complaint; if someone pregnant from rape or incest has an abortion, they are just piling trauma on top of trauma.

Also teach the people about how uncaring abortion facilities are, and that abortions have such a high rate of mother complications.

read Francine River's "Atonement Child", and Frank Peretti's "Prophet". Both are about abortion. Also read Angela Hunt's books... I can't remember the names right now... I will get back to you later.... but there are several- one that deals completely with abortion and breast cancer....

does this help?

how long can your speech be?

better make it as long as possible. Include visual aids to shorten it.

Good luck!

oh yeah-- check out the national right to life organization. focus on the family probably has some good reference material, too.

Also talk to the people at your local pregnancy care center. If you don't have one, think of that as your next mission... talk to your church about starting one.

With some of the claims at these sites, you may have to verify the facts from official sources, so someone can't pull the "unclaimed' or "discounted" source rebuttal on you.

Many blessing on your report!

I did the same thing back in high school. I wish I could remember all that I said, but the things I said made the students question - such as, "Can something non-living grow?"

May the lord help and strengthen you as you stand for Him!

Those stories nearly brought a tear to my eye......

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
