Do you mean “Is faith inflamed by mental illness” or “Is mental illness inflamed by faith?” :wacko:

2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

The inner working of the mind of Christ will always seem "inflamed to illness" to one of reprobate mind.

A sound mind is established in humility.

Acts 20:

18 And when they were come to him, he said unto them, Ye know, from the first day that I came into Asia,

after what manner I have been with you at all seasons,

19 Serving the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations,

which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews:

Philippians 2:

3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind

let each esteem others better than himself.

4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.

5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.

1 Corinthians 2:16 For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?

But we have the mind of Christ.

Faith establishes us with a "ready mind".

1 Peter 5:1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness

of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:

2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint,

but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind.

Faith establishes us in a healthy mindset towards the sufferings of life.

1 Peter 4:

Inasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind:

for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;

2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.

Faith establishes a mindset whereby we can be conformed to one another in Christ.

1 Peter 3:

8 Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another;

love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous;

9 not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing,

knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.

Faith establishes us in the sobriety of obedience to the Will of the Father

1 Peter 1:

13 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace

that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

14 as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance;

15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,

16 because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”

Is Faith an outgrowth of mental illness?

I've had some say that if I believe in a God I'm nuts, :unsure: , but then think, thanks, I needed that.

And maybe that fanned, or strengthened my flame of belief. Not weakened it.
To so many, it is foolishness. To those who believe, trust, hope, it's evidence of scriptural proof.

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate."

Yeah, crazy for Jesus!

Aye, there are bats roosting in this belfry. :emot-headphones:

When I liberate myself of possessions, I'm a lunatic.
When I believe the Lord Jesus Christ, I'm nuts because one is only supposed to believe that God exists.
When I dropped everything and traveled 800 miles to meet a man who is just as off in the head as I am, I was running away to join a cult of brainwashed crazies.
They taunted me... they disowned me... and because I would not speak up in defense of myself, it was proof positive that I had gone completely mad.

Okay. :)

Okay. :)

To dispossess oneself of the things of this world with a divine motive and intent,

is the expression of a healthy hatred for this life.

John 12:25 He who loves his life will lose it,

and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

Atheists think so.

Religious Delusion is a diagnostic term that helps manage those whose mental illness causes this, but faith in God is a shield that quenches the inflammatory missiles of our enemy, as per Ephesians 6:16.

And yet in the world it is those without faith who suffer most with mental illnesses - depression and anxiety is rife.
