I think my thoughts are more nuanced than the poll would be able to capture :)

@HopeInHim Are you still in principle open to at least the idea of some ink on your ring finger, in the way you described in the past?

A former neighbor, a young lady, had all of her arms and all of her legs totally covered with tattoos.

Hi @Debp

From back a bit I know you're not really into the subject.

It's true that it can go 'over the top'. But when it comes to Christian families in some areas such as the rural Bible Belt, it seems to be such a custom that when a young person is old enough receiving at least some ink is practically expected:

FYI:

..in the rural Bible Belt. Just about every person in three of the four sides of my family (bio parents, step parents) have multiple tattoos. Most of them are biblical (crosses between the shoulder blades are the most common ones) getting tattoos when your old enough is pretty much expected in the family.

so many of them are indeed  ugly botches of overdone inking,  especially so it seems on the women running around today.

@Neighbor You make a valid point about some inkings being overdone, and it's true that although it used to be mainly a man thing many years ago, yet today even more women than men seem to have it done.

FYI:

Paula Castle took up tattooing after being made redundant from a sales job ..."I really did not want to do it. ...But I’m a bit of an all or nothing person so I said ‘yes’ and really pushed myself and I’ve not stopped...About 97% of my clients are female and that is universal across the board."

James McCarthy, Mirror dot co dot uk

There's such a demand for it out there that it's easy to see how many Christians feel it's like a golden opportunity to display something faith based (Scripture quote or ref.; Christian fish sign <><, etc.).

I have become enlightened to the fact that I do not want any tattoos, nor bumper stickers, nor t-shirts. I will want to infiltrate meet individuals within the unsaved world and make friends rather than confront and remain at a distance from them.

So no in your face announcements of any kind is what I am now striving toward trying out as I reach out.

@Neighbor

I know indeed what you mean by 'in your face' announcements, and so forth. Some ink is indeed 'over the top'.

When Christians however have something such as a Christian fish sign <>< tattooed onto a wrist, it would likely not be regarded remotely as being 'in your face' in character.

Sometimes the existence of a previous tattoo does seem to cry out for more, alternative ink in the minds of some tattooees.

For example, a Christian woman with a tattoo of a previous non-Christian bf's name might well want to have it covered with something that much better reflected her mature and permanent thinking by God's grace; e.g., instead of "BILL", a tattoo superimposed "BIBLE" (which a good tattoo artist can achieve).

The Christian woman in question would highly likely relish such a tattoo rather than being condemned to have a longstanding tattoo with unfavorable memories of a non-Christian ex-bf.

PS: @Ps37 Thanks for the 'like'; and I can indeed imagine circumstances of a Christian woman who has been tattooed in the past with the name of a non-Christian ex-bf of whose attentions she had previously been subject might highly likely be motivated very strongly now to go get tattooed with something superimposed that carried a more suitable message.

I've always seen tattoos as just "permanent evidence of temporary insanity."

Ha, love it! It is perhaps the most sobering post on this thread.

Tattoos;  All about me. Like wearing a bumper sticker, or  stickers listing places visited by me, me me. It's all about me, always, and I am unique having tattoos just like you have tattoos. Wait a minute.....

As for me I will opt for having a big really big  Bible in KJV on the coffee table, one of those big red epistle size ones.

Yes I actually have one. Somewhere-

@Neighbor It might indeed be self-centred in some cases, but not necessarily.

My wife and I talked to a young lady with the whole of John 3.16 tattooed on her wrist area; she seemed a modest and somewhat shy person, but with a quiet inner confidence and joy in what was her favorite Bible verse - and mine - also.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
