Jesus told us He came that we might have life and have it abundantly…also

Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us,

(Ephesians 3:20 NAS95)

I thought it would be nice to share scriptures where that word is used and find encouragement in the wonder of what our Lord has provided. Its also interesting to look at that word translated as power.

This is the word behind abundantly.

4053. περισσός perissos, per-is-sos´; from 4012 (in the sense of beyond); superabundant (in quantity) or superior (in quality); by implication, excessive; adverbially (with 1537) violently; neuter (as noun) preeminence: — exceeding abundantly above, more abundantly, advantage, exceedingly, very highly, beyond measure, more, superfluous, vehement(-ly).

This is the word behind power.

1410. δύναμαι dunamai, doo´-nam-ahee; of uncertain affinity; to be able or possible: — be able, can (do, + -not), could, may, might, be possible, be of power.

1411. δύναμις dunamis, doo´-nam-is; from 1410; force (literally or figuratively); specially, miraculous power (usually by implication, a miracle itself): — ability, abundance, meaning, might(-ily, -y, -y deed), (worker of) miracle(-s), power, strength, violence, mighty (wonderful) work.

I've heard it said "God never gives us more than we an handle" but I've found this is untrue.

God always gives us more than we can handle, things we cannot imagine we can do, so that we can do those things we think we cannot by calling on his power in addition to our own.  In God, we do what we can to the fullest extent we are capable of and God adds the rest, the power to do it.

Examining myself a little inversely, when I find I am easily doing all the things of my life by myself I know I'm living within my own will and not within God's will and doing those things God wills for me to be doing, the things I cannot actually do by myself and absolutely have to call on God for the additional power to do them after I have done all that I can do.

It is said "If at first you do not succeed, try, try again", but I say "If at first you do not succeed, call on God for his help before you try again".  If it is in his will, your will get it, and if it isn't you don't want to be doing it in the first place.

Sincerely praying for wisdom in what you do, whether or not you should be doing it according for his will for you, helps.

Just my thoughts.

Amen. This sentiment is a misapplication of a verse that applies only to temptation.

1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

In every circumstance where the Lord is calling us to serve, we should always find ourselves "in over our head" and in need of His power, might, and strength.

1 Corinthians 2:3 I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling.

4 And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human

wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power

5 that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.

2 Corinthians 3:5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything

as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God

6 who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant,

not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills,

but the Spirit gives life.

Philippians 3:10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection,

and the fellowship of his sufferings,

being made conformable unto his death.

11 if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.

John 10:10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

1 Corinthians 12:

23 And those members of the body, which we think to be less honorable, upon these we bestow more abundant honor; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.

24 For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honor to that part which lacked.

Hebrews 6:

17 Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath,

18 that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
