Mending Wall

Something there is that doesn’t love a wall,

That sends the frozen-ground-swell under it,

And spills the upper boulders in the sun;

And makes gaps even two can pass abreast.

The work of hunters is another thing:

I have come after them and made repair

Where they have left not one stone on a stone,

But they would have the rabbit out of hiding,

To please the yelping dogs. The gaps I mean,

No one has seen them made or heard them made,

But at spring mending-time we find them there.

I let my neighbor know beyond the hill;

And on a day we meet to walk the line

And set the wall between us once again.

We keep the wall between us as we go.

To each the boulders that have fallen to each.

And some are loaves and some so nearly balls

We have to use a spell to make them balance:

‘Stay where you are until our backs are turned!’

We wear our fingers rough with handling them.

Oh, just another kind of out-door game,

One on a side. It comes to little more:

There where it is we do not need the wall:

He is all pine and I am apple orchard.

My apple trees will never get across

And eat the cones under his pines, I tell him.

He only says, ‘Good fences make good neighbors.’

Spring is the mischief in me, and I wonder

If I could put a notion in his head:

‘Why do they make good neighbors? Isn’t it

Where there are cows? But here there are no cows.

Before I built a wall I’d ask to know

What I was walling in or walling out,

And to whom I was like to give offense.

Something there is that doesn't love a wall,

That wants it down.’ I could say ‘Elves’ to him,

But it’s not elves exactly, and I’d rather

He said it for himself. I see him there

Bringing a stone grasped firmly by the top

In each hand, like an old-stone savage armed.

He moves in darkness as it seems to me,

Not of woods only and the shade of trees.

He will not go behind his father’s saying,

And he likes having thought of it so well

He says again, ‘Good fences make good neighbors.’

My Yugoslav bride from Texas loves Mariachi music and TexMex hot food. Her own chili using D.L. Jardines Texas chili bag o' fixins kit is awesomely powerful stuff. While I love it, it is way too powerful for a guy raised on Maine Lobster, Little Neck Steamers, and clam broth with fresh predawn morning picked corn.

BUT such is the spice of life, I welcome the cultures into my own life, and hope a bit of mine is welcomed in return. One on one we all can share of Jesus', His gospel being salvation for us all.  May borders of lands  not separate the gospel of my Lord with communion of the faithful from each other.

Well back in the 1950's  in the ghettos I was familiar with  in the greater Boston area, each group spoke their own language and kept separate for the most part. In the 1960, 70, and 80's I tracked the movement of ghettos that all tended to float around a bit with  one group pushing out another and all speaking different languages in the Los Angeles city and LA county area, as it was vital to assigning  our sales people's leads.

Both ethnicity and language are very important components of doing business successfully.  All that predates the some 18 million that are crashing the border  nowadays. Is there a problem? Heck yes there is a problem, but is there also an opportunity to share of our Lord that was never there before? Yes, even with the "bad guys".

People are interesting.  Around here, farmers, hire green card employees for summer work.  Will treat em like kings.   Buy their food, supply their drink, supply their room and board basically.   Just go out of their way to be good to their workers.

 

Then you see the same farmers gathering in the small town near these parts and just blast every immigrant and human being trying to get to the place where the green card workers are at with these farmers (work, room, board, money, etc).

 

Most of these farmers claim to know the Lord.  Will see them in every Church Service and they never miss giving tithes or offerings.  Let a immigrant make a big enough mistake, even these God fearing men of God will lavishly give them a new title...

And you think those are representative of the American legal system?

Cultural clashes of various types can be found in almost any country with multiple cultures and ethnic groups forcing themselves on one another, maybe excepting Japan, but that doesn't mean it's the law of the land there which is what would be required to force it.
