It was plainly an evil spirit sent by God which caused trouble everywhere Paul went, and tempted Paul in various ways.

Here is the problem with this statement.

The scripture says that it was a messenger of the adversary of God. Paul was a messenger of God. This breaks it down to something that had been done to Paul from the outside or was continually being done to Paul from the outside by a messenger of the adversary of God.(A human or Humans)

Could she have been part of this thorn from the adversary?

And she constrained us. 16 And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying: 17 The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation. 18 And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour. 19 And when her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drew them into the marketplace unto the rulers, 20 And brought them to the magistrates, saying, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city, 21 And teach customs, which are not lawful for us to receive, neither to observe, being Romans.

You mean the useless point that added nothing to the discussion?

"And ye shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have not obeyed my voice: why have ye done this? Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you." Judges 2:2,3

Isaiah 53:4,5 says, that Jesus bore our sickness and pain - Yahweh Rapha - the Great Physician. Jesus healed all who came to him. The N.T. words for salvation, mean "healing, health,deliverance." I do not believe Paul had an eye disease as many claim. It is very likely, that, he was referring to the false teachers, that, were undermining his ministry, giving him grief.
