What do you make of these verses?

John 10:28-30

28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. 30 I and My Father are one.”

Hi; the true believer's eternal security is similarly spoken of in Romans 8.38-39:

"For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

The one common denominator in both of these passages is the free will of the individual. Yes, no one can snatch us from His hand, but many walked away when persecution arose, even as the Lord taught. Nothing outside of ourselves can separate us from the love of God in Christ, which abides in us, but the scriptures cannot be broken!

Isaiah 59:

1 Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened,
That it cannot save;
Nor His ear heavy,
That it cannot hear.
2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God;
And your sins have hidden His face from you,
So that He will not hear.

I do like and prefer the term human responsibility; Philippians 1.6 says: "He that hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ".

Amen. I am confident the Lord will continue...as we abide

9 And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, 10 that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, 11 being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

We reap what we sow...

James 3:18 Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

And there's the condition to salvation... it's only applicable to those that abide In Christ according to what Jesus taught in John 15 among others

Hi, Since you are reading with your group within Romans plus have come across the thought of a "default standing" I think you might find enjoyable reading at your leisure within https://www.spurgeon.org/resource-library/sermons/in-christ-not-condemnation/#flipbook/

In contradiction to the title of this thread,

those who do not abide and thereby overcome,

have not defaulted to the Spirit!

Romans 8:

9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit,

if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you.

Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ,

he is not His.

10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin,

but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead

dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead

will also give life to your mortal bodies

through His Spirit who dwells in you.

This is in direct contrast to the sin that dwells in us,

used 3X in Romans 7. Paul clearly lays out that what

we make of the gift of salvation depends wholly on

which we obey. Those who quote Romans 8 without

the sound comprehension of Romans 7 think they can

quote from 8 without regard for this truth. This is

commonly known as "name it, claim it" doctrine.

The removal of obedience by this doctrine is anathema.

13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die;

but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body,

you will live.

14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God,

these are sons of God.

There is hardly a day that I do not find myself getting

into the flesh and saying or doing something I regret and

must repent of. This is the Lord's chastisement. This is

the covenant of the sure mercies of David. Ignorance of

this truth is rampant. My perfection of sanctification is in

abiding under the Lord's discipline. Undisciplined faith

will reap what has been sown, to the flesh or the Spirit.

Galatians 6:8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh

reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of

the Spirit reap everlasting life.

How is that for eternal security? The Law cannot be broken.

As you reap, so shall you sow.

If one is not defaulting to the leading of the Holy Spirit and is walking in sin... they are refusing to allow the Holy Spirit to dwell (live) in them.

Therefore they are sowing to the flesh, reaping corruption (Gal 6:7,8) which causes them to not be in right standing with the Lord anymore.  If they die in that condition they will be lost as we know God is not mocked.

Ezekiel 18:20 (see Romans 8:13)
The soul that sinneth, it shall die.

Romans 8:13
For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

This is why God's Word teaches that we must confess and forsake our sin to be forgiven and to have mercy once again:

Proverbs 28:13
He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Once we "admit it and quit it" we can go back to being led by the Spirit as being our default rather than walking after the flesh being our default and going forward make no provision for the flesh

Romans 13:14
put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

That would be defaulting to the Spirit.

Wow!  Sorry to hear of all the sin problems resulting from a lack of self control which is one of the fruit of the Spirit provided by the Lord to those getting born again!

Sounds like a little Romans 13:14 is in order eh?

Try not to exaggerate, that also is sin. We are to confess our

FAULTS (shortcomings) to one another. I have no doubt in my

mind and heart that there are certain people that push the limits

of your patient endurance! This too is a fruit of the Spirit.

Guess what? The people who try us the most are the ones who

are most like us! This is how the Spirit operates by bringing us into

contact with those who reflect ourselves back upon us.

Few have come to grasp this revelation.

Romans 2:1 Therefore you are inexcusable, O man, whoever you are who judge, for in whatever you judge another you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things.

No disrespect intended, but I do not need sympathy from you or anyone else. We are to pray for one another. I will also give thanks for you and your fellowship, as in everything, may we sharpen one another.

James 3:

1 My brethren, let not many of you become teachers,

knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment.

2 For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not

stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle

the whole body.

And for this I pray, even our perfection.

2 Corinthians 13:9 For we are glad, when we are weak,

and ye are strong: and this also we wish, even your perfection.

No, I forgive them... cast my cares upon the Lord... and then ignore them and go on about my life.

That way, I'm not allowing anybody to live in my mind so to speak... which keeps me free to meditate on what the Lord says in His Word!

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
