In basic form it is the science of the brain and how it works. Being as how the brain was created by God and corrupted by the fall, thus I see no reason why a Christian should be prohibited from studying something created by God.

I agree

Thanks everyone for your opinions on this topic.

Its' been an emotional journey reading all these Posts. Excitement to fear to anger to awe to sadness and finally to comtemplation. I put in this Post to get honest feedback. which I got and am very grateful for.

My husband is sharing this journey with me. He is finding it rather fascinating. His favourite word at the moment is 'psychobabble' - Statements, theories and ideologies which aren't based on facts or viable evidence. In other words assumptions, guesses and fairytales. Psychology has a long way to go in terms of development. Its' main purpose is to research and to counsel. I had a friend whose daughter was sexually abused by her new partner. Her daughters therapist was a christian. My friends daughter is doing extremely well. I believe it is because the therapist would go into work early, look over her appointments and pray for every client she was seeing that day. She invited God into the situation and Godly answered her.

as a christian, studying psychology would be good. why not. but as for "christian psychologist" that's an oximoron. you have to remember psychology is a science of man, by man. you'll notice historically that the study of psychology has gone through many changes and errors.

I think it is fine. Like any profession the difficult time will come when psychoanalytic or counseling principles come into conflict with God's word. The Christian will need to decide which they will listen to and apply
My freshman year in college I took a psychology class, and my last semester I took a philosophy class. I found neither of them to be edifying to me in any way. In fact, the more I learned about them, the more I realized they were not at all of God. Psychology does not even acknowledge the existence of God, but attempts to explain all behavior as a combination of genetic, chemical, and environmental factors. The Bible says in Genesis 6 that every thought of the imagination of the heart of man is only evil continually. This is for ALL people. The Bible says the only answer is Jesus Christ and Him crucified. The Bible always leads to God fixing man. Psychology says there is nothing inherently wrong with man, and even if there is, it can be corrected by fixing the chemical and environmental factors involved. Pschology always leads to man trying to fix himself or one another.

I think you are dealing more with the theories behind psychology than the actual act of psychology. The proper definition of such is to just study the brain. In other words, any study upon how the brain opperates in certain circumstances and how to correct negative patterns is, by definition, psychology. The brain, being made by God, should be studied. Just because a person is a psychologist doesn't mean he or she believes there is nothing inherently wrong with the human race.

I have been thinking in the direction of the total power that the Almighty has, for quite some time now. I once had a preacher who would always say that God is a God of history. Well it started me thinking about how He ordained everything and uses everything, for He was the One who created all concepts. For instance, how He used mathematical concepts, because of course He created them. It is my opinion that He has called some of His own to be in this field. I think it could be a great way to witness for him.

My daughter is planning to study this area for her career. She said that she will have a box full of New Testaments to give to each of her patients; she will tell them that within this book lie the true answers to everyone's problems. Sometimes it does help to talk to someone about your problems. God knows we have many trials and He provides us with many different ways to find help. He is The Glory .......jmh137

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
