Luke 5:

36 Then He spoke a parable to them: “No one puts a piece from a new garment on an old one; otherwise the new makes a tear, and also the piece that was taken out of the new does not match the old.

37 And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine will burst the wineskins and be spilled, and the wineskins will be ruined.

38 But new wine must be put into new wineskins, and both are preserved.

39 And no one, having drunk old wine, immediately desires new; for he says, ‘The old is better.’ ”

Does a preference for "the old wine" represent a resistance to change and accepting the new?

Luke 5:36-39 - Jesus meant that Christians don't have to conform to Judaism.

A somewhat misleading understatement.

Matthew 5:20 For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.

2 Corinthians 3:

7 But if the ministry of death, written and engraved on stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of the glory of his countenance, which glory was passing away,

8 how will the ministry of the Spirit not be more glorious?

9 For if the ministry of condemnation had glory, the ministry of righteousness exceeds much more in glory.

The focus of this thread, as well as "Nascent Spirit of Life" is all things new,

and the meaning of walking "in newness of life".

Galatians 6:15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but a new creation.

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Revelation 21:5 Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.”

And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.”

OT, NT, mix? Old ways, new ways. Outside, inside. Sight(works), faith, circumcision/heart. Doesn't fit,nor mix.
Old agreement/pact not working. New agreement (wine skins) cannot patch old. Replaces.
Grace through faith, (NOT of works)

"The New Man"...Conversion, or sanctification?

Ephesians 4:

 22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man,

which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;

24 And that ye put on the new man,

which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

Colossians 3:

8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice,

blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have

put off the old man with his deeds;

10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in

knowledge after the image of him that created him.

I go with @Sower. The context is Christ, sinless, mixing with sinners. The supplemental context is the Sabbath and fasting. And a "garment" in parable is one's works (Rev.19:7-8). From Moses onward God had been working with men by Law. With John Baptist this changed (Lk.16:16). Law can only condemn the sinful man. God had restricted Himself to man in Genesis 1:26-28 and so Law, having proved its inability to reconcile men to God, is put aside to allow for "a ministry of reconciliation". But if God sets aside Law, how are men rewarded. The Law contained promises of health, wealth, long life, many children and safety from enemies. Belief in Jesus just bring persecution and loss of worldly goods.

So for men under Law, the "old way" was better. You could revenge yourself, claim restoration and be immediately rewarded by God. The New Way was self-denial, give your wealth away, danger, pain and the reward was so far away - even after death, that it became abstract. The most popular Churches to day are where the prosperity gospels is preached. But it doesn't work. The New Wine ferments and takes to much from the vessel. Only a few get rich, the bulk help the rich get rich and become poorer and they have no reward stored in heaven since God is not behind their "mixed religion".

The context is the time of preparation before

the wedding of the Lamb, and is a prophetic word.

Matthew 9:14-17 Then the disciples of John came to Him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but Your disciples do not fast?” And Jesus said to them, “Can the friends of the bridegroom mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast. No one puts a piece of un-shrunk cloth on an old garment; for the patch pulls away from the garment, and the tear is made worse. Nor do they put new wine into old wineskins, or else the wineskins break, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But they put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.

Matthew 26:27-29 Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.”

The wedding garment is given, and must be received,

as a living member of the Body of Christ.

Matthew 22:8-10 Then he said to his servants, The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy. Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you find, invite to the wedding. So those servants went out into the highways and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good. And the wedding hall was filled with guests.

11-13 But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment. So he said to him, Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. Then the king said to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

14 “For many are called, but few are chosen.”

The new wine is also spoken of prophetically in reference to the necessity

of maintaining "the Spirit of Unity, in the Bond of Peace".

Isaiah 65:8 Thus says the Lord:

“As the new wine is found in the cluster,
And one says, ‘Do not destroy it,
For a blessing is in it,’
So will I do for My servants’ sake,
That I may not destroy them all.

9 I will bring forth descendants from Jacob,
And from Judah an heir of My mountains;
My elect shall inherit it,
And My servants shall dwell there.
10 Sharon shall be a fold of flocks,
And the Valley of Achor a place for herds to lie down,
For My people who have sought Me.

Even as it is written by David:

Psalm 133:1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is
For brethren to dwell together in unity!

For there the Lord commanded the blessing—
Life forevermore.

We seek and find Christ in the fellowship of the saints.

As it is sung, "O, Magnify the Lord with me,

and let us exalt His Name together".

Psalm 40:16 Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You;
Let such as love Your salvation say continually,
“The Lord be magnified!”

Philippians 1:19-21 For I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayer and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, according to my earnest expectation and hope that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

Ephesians 2:4-7 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

The testimony of John the Baptist.

John 3:27-30 John answered and said, A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven. You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but, I have been sent before Him. He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled.  He must increase, but I must decrease.

A better word than resistance might be incompatibility.

The wedding garment is given, and must be received,

as a living member of the Body of Christ.

I cannot see that this is a time of preparation for the Wedding Feast. The Groom is about to LEAVE, and a FAST is proclaimed. Two things are contrasted. (i) An OLD garment that is torn, and (ii) a NEW vessel. If we go to Revelation 19:7-8 and allow scripture to interpret scripture, then the garment is works.

Also, the wedding garment is NOT given. It must be prepared by the Bride. Revelation 19 says;

7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. 8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints

She makes HERSELF ready and it is THE SAINT'S righteousness - not Christ's. So also Matthew 5;

20 For I say unto you, That except YOUR righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

It is the Priest's garment that is given to him for audience with God. There, our righteous works are not enough. But to enter the Kingdom it is YOUR works that qualify you.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

      Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

      This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

      You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

      Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

      I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

      For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

      2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

      So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

      Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
      Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

      Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

      As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

      Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
      Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

      So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
