In all fairness, I believe that parents are responsible for part of juniors education. I may not be a genius but I did acquire some knowledge through the public school system. I find that a lot of parents are letting PBS handle the homework instead of putting some time into their own children. The kids are being led by example in most cases.

Alive but not Queen during WWI......wonderful woman lived to a ripe old age of 101 :noidea:

Gerioke.....

I agree.

Parents feel their kids are in "good hands" once they're at school but if you don't stay or at least get involved in your childs school life, you may be very surprised to find out that they've made it to grade 8 and have been getting help with the use of a grade 4 book because they can't read.

Mark, these are basic historical principles that these kids have "learned" already. Vietnam didn't occur in 1990 (they "learned" this in 8th grade history) but according to the majority it did.

geez, and I thougth goin to school was to LEARN, and not show how

ENLIGHTENED WITH WISDOM AND KNOWLEDGE one was....

heaven forbid an 50 year old stand up in sunday school class and ask

Who was Abraham?

there is no such thing as a "dumb question"...

and I can tell by the naivity and ignorance of the posts in this thread

that "lack of experience" is a MAJOR in lifes walk.

Einstein was the TRUE IDIOT.

As there is no such thing as a "dumb question":

Mark I, where did you learn to write sentences and paragraphs?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The problem with education today is that it is subjective, and not objective (note that I am saying this from a Canadian understanding--and as someone who has seen how we teach our teachers to teach students). Logical reasoning based on facts is replaced by emotional tolerance (you base your choices on how you feel, not on what you know). Fact is slowly fictionalized and truth is vandalized. As such, the underlying ideology of teaching is that everything is to be measured and judged true or false, fact or fiction, based on feelings and opinons. Objective study of history (or science, or english, or social studies) is slowly moved out the door.

Why? Less what we teach as objective fact offends someone.

As for the students: the school systems no longer encourage learning or presents the challenge to learn. And so students, because they know they can pass with minimal effort do not make any effort to learn. And, because playing the X-Box is more fun then learning about the political climate fueled World War 1, and MTV is more entertaining then the news, they don't bother with those subjects (why learn, its boring? lets have fun). It is the T.V.-Entertain Me! generation!

In fact, if there is any indication that this latest (18 and under) generation has been lost to the TV and game systems, its the increased development of 'entertainment-educational' games aimed at the 5-10 age group that are coming onto the market. Its the admission that outside of those systems, we can not longer 'effective' teach or communication knowledge to those kids.

So let me get this straight. My two-year old who already knows here ABC's and can count to 20 in both english and spanish, and is starting to read on her own, plus is now starting to write a, b, c, etc. is probably going to be bored out of her mind when she starts first grade, providing she's not already going to private school? That's scary. :emot-highfive:

She'll be labeled "gifted" and dumbed down, as it is not fair to other students for her to be that intelligent (I know it sounds like a conspiracy theory, but that is how the system works, I've read the manuel).

ALso, learned today that:

London is a country

Belgium is in Washington

Nova Scotia is in France

and here is possibly the best one:

John Kerry is our vice president.

Is she reading non-picture books and flashcards? If you type up her favorite stories from picture books, so that she can't see the pictures, can she still "read" it? How old is she in months?

Not only is she beginning to read non-picture books, but is able to understand what is written on paper. She is 28 months old. I hope this is not going to cause problems down the road.

I can remember some things from that time peroid, but unfortunately I did the booze thing in my late teens and early 20's and now I'm dealing with the consequences. I do plan on teaching my daughter why drinking is bad for you.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
