It is communication and requires intelligence to perform. But it is basic. Devoid of ambiguity (as human speech is fraught with). We may be more intelligent but animal speech is far more effective than human speech. I've known people whose grunts or sighs spoke volumes. Usually "don't tick me off" or "don't bother me." I've known moments of breathless passion with the woman I adore more than life itself.
