These are entries from two consecutive days recently in "The Supplied Life" devotional.  This makes the concept of the inner Anointing's teaching to be very practical to me.  All Christians, I think, have had the experience of having an inner sense about something we were about to do. For me, oftentimes, there may be a loss of inner peace, and I just know an activity or way of speaking is not the way to go.  As I go in in the Christian walk, I learn more and more to heed these inner sensations.  How about you?

"But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him." 1 John 2:27

Being compatible with the Lord's voice is described by the apostle John as being taught by the anointing. The word anointing is the verbal form of the noun, the anointed One. Anointing in Greek is chrisma and simply refers to the movement and action of the anointed One, Christ (Christos). John says, "The same anointing teaches you." This means that the movement and action of the Lord within us has the ability to communicate to us and teach us. Thus, the way we hear the Lord's voice is by the anointing. This kind of speaking does not come in the form of plain words written on a page. Rather, it is an inner movement of the anointed One within us. The anointing abides in us. This anointing should not be thought of as an extraordinary gift that a few spiritual people possess. The anointing is simply the movement and inner activity of Christ Himself in all His redeemed and regenerated children.

In our daily experience the anointing teaches us by giving us an inner knowing. This teaching is by the life-movement and consciousness within us. It is a different kind of teaching from the Old Testament law of letters written on tablets of stone. The anointing is a kind of teaching that comes out of our fellowship with the Lord and our inner sensitivity to Him.

"But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things." 1 John 2:20

We may liken the teaching of the anointing to our being taught in the physical realm. For example, if we walk into a room in which the temperature is one hundred degrees, the presence of heat teaches us to take off our jacket. There is no need to read a sign that says, "Take off your jacket." The presence of heat automatically teaches us to take it off. It is the presence of something that teaches, not a teaching by audible words or outward letters of instruction. We can say that the temperature itself teaches us with the voice of a "felt presence." The anointing works in the same way within us. The anointing is the presence of a Person moving within us. Thus, whenever we are taking a certain course of action that is not compatible with the Lord, we sense a bothering or troubling within. We lose our normal inward poise of peace.

For instance, you are about to complain to someone because you are right and they are wrong about something they did or did not do. But as you actually launch into your argument, the more you speak, the more there is the presence of "heat." You feel uncomfortable, you feel awkward, you lose your peace, and you yourself sense that what you are saying is not compatible with your insides. Just as heat teaches you to take off your jacket, so the presence of the anointing teaches you to stop talking in a complaining way. The reason you are unable to keep talking is not because someone is telling you not to talk that way. You cannot talk because you have an inward forbidding. You are just not free and at liberty to speak that way anymore. This kind of experience is the anointing teaching you. The anointing's voice made it clear that your words were not compatible with the Lord. This kind of experience is not an occasion for taking condemning thoughts and accusations about yourself. Rather, it is an occasion for learning to be compatible with the Lord's life in your speaking and attitude.

Several verses come to mind. James 1:21  "Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls." Here is a reference to both the living Word of God and the Word which has been read, heard, studied, and memorized. It has been engrafted, or planted in us, and is available to the Holy Spirit to use as needed in our ministries. It is the realization of the promise from Jesus in Mark 13:11  "But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost."

The next verse is John 14:26  "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you."  Here again is the realization of Jesus promise of the Holy spirit who now tabernacles within us.

The anointing of 1 John 2:27 is that which was promised by Jesus to be in us, the very Holy Spirit of God. Though I agree with the practical aspect of the devotional, I am leery of those who lean towards "feelings" as affirmation of God's leading as opposed to the direct Word of God. Even though I experience those "feelings" or "leadings" every day, I always look for them not to be in opposition with the written Word.

Good though, VA, as all your postings. Thanks.

Thanks VA. I would think for me to sum up that every believer develops his communion with the holy spirit each in his own way.
I personally do not hear a 'inner voice' the way so many say they do. It's more like when  I recall as needed; "I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you" I store light within and the spirit prompts this understanding when needed.

My go to,  "Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up"

It may not sound applicable to anointed learning specifically however, when I quote it in my mind and then consider his words, I sense the Lord has 'turned his head' to listen, to hear me when I loose 'self' and bow down remembering he's my creator..

"And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.

And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him"

Using the scriptures concerning this 'anointing' (unction/smearing, from God) that I received when I was born again, is being enabled to call upon the power of God available to us in his promises, the word,  providing I am abiding  in his will. Approaching the throne with boldness (as instructed with confidence), clothed in humility. I know it's weird, yet I have the confidence. (belief)

(God does NOT lie)   “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”

Including;  spiritual understanding-wisdom-spiritual discernment-abiding-walking in the spirit-receive power to witness-burdened to share good news-to forgive-to love-show mercy-etc-to do what I was created to do for His glory, good works..

Thanks VA..

Addem dum..

I believe every day I quench the spirit, and grieve the spirit, knowingly and unknowingly. I believe most do.
Some are the little things that grieve him, thoughts usually that don't seem bad yet can grow (vain imaginations), that may  become big things when not dealt with, and then I can quench the spirit.

I can tell when the fellowship is lost. Power enablement lost. That's when I recall to mind, 'humble thyself before the Lord and he will lift me up'  Fellowship restored, press on. Not looking back;  "Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead" running the race. Continually quoting "Lord make straight my path"!

"Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed.
The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man
(doing the right thing) availeth much"

Humble thyself..       (It's ok to seek humility)

I see the clear need for both - we need both the word and the inner Anointing (both are Christ).  Yes, without the word, we might be deceived by some erroneous feeling. But without the Anointing confirming the word, we could have just dead letter - "The letter kills, but the Spirit gives life."

The Anointing makes the word come alive in us, and uses the word to direct our paths.  We are to walk according to the Spirit/spirit (our joined spirit, one with Him).

@Vine Abider My sufficiency seems just as God has written it...
2 Timothy 3:15 (KJV)

[15] And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

[16] All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

[17] That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

I see my idea on this clearly written out in Scripture... but find no such clarity in your position...

So help me understand your perspective - are we not supposed to know or follow the Lord's inner leading?  (and of course, there are myriad verses about His Spirit and life in us operating, leading us, speaking to us, teaching us, transforming us, etc., right?)

What does this verse mean if not the combination of both the Word and the Spirit that teaches us?

John 14:26 "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Thanks.

Exactly - that's why we need both the word and the indwelling Spirit of Christ!  The Jews in the OT had the word, but in the New covenant we are blessed with His life within to also teach us!

Is this the "new anointing" that you are talking about? It is not necessarily biblical. The Bible never tells us to ask for the Holy Spirit to come upon us for a simple reason. He has already come. All believers are supernaturally and permanently anointed by the Holy Spirit.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
