Trump threatens to take control of Panama Canal

In 1999 Panama invited the King of Spain to watch the re-Hispanicizing of the former Canal Zone.

It would likely confuse the Panamanians - and the King of Spain - for it to be de-Hispanicized again.

I know this does not rate significantly on one side of the likely negotiations, but for evocative cultural reasons it might do so on the other side.

A few years ago Denmark planted a Danish flag on an uninhabited island in the middle of the Davis Strait between Greenland and Canada.

Shortly afterwards, Canada removed the Danish flag from the uninhabited island and, wrapping it up, officials transported it to the Canadian capital, Ottawa, and gave the flag back to an uneasy Danish official at the Danish embassy in Ottawa.

I guess Denmark and the autonomous Greenlanders are in for further uneasy times with flags.

Here's my overall point: we literally have a new class of people IN OUR COUNTRY called the hopeless class, hooked on fentanyl and heroin, in every major city. This is a national emergency, let alone a cry for humanity. How many billions are printed to be shipped out of this country to take life, when not one dollar is printed to help our own. PATHETIC.

Yeah I'm a little discouraged with the direction we're going. It looks like he's going to do certain things for certain people. He has to return favors to  his donors first and foremost.

In 1999 former Panamanian President Mireya Moscoso wanted to assert the Hispanicity of the former Canal Zone; this is why she invited the King of Spain to observe the handing over.

Actually there are more flights across the Atlantic from Madrid to Buenos Aires than there are from Madrid to New York City, so it's hard to argue that in terms of influence all the Latin American countries "belong" to US interests.

From the little that I know, the US president believes the cost to go through the canal is very unreasonable. What " he" intends to do remains to be seen. I believe that if we, the ( "un-bought") citizens of the United States were actually in control of our government, we wouldn't have all these conflicts with other nations.
